The issue isn't "conservatives" in some abstract sence. The issue is Republicans in a concrete sense. Mainstream Republicans don't like McCain, for the reasons Alex I cites above and the reasons Imran and I cited in the Bye Bye Fred Thompson thread.

Despite what I said to Che it looks like me and Huckabee are best buds until the next round goes through.

A telling fact is that according to exit polls in all the contests so far, including NH, SC, and FL, McCain has yet to actually come in first among voters who identify themselves as Republican. Even in Florida -- a closed primary -- he only managed to tie Romney in this category.

McCain has many flaws, but I still don't see any reason why a self-professed conservative would prefer Romney to McCain. They both have gaping flaws.

Now we are in the worst part of the primaries. It was much more fun with everyone in the mix, but now it's gonna get nasty.

All Huckabee is really helping to achieve is McCain winning the nomination, IMHO.

Also IMHO, McCain winning the GOP means President Obama next year. I mean really, look at young and vital Obama and old grouch McCain.

I think McCain might have a better chance of beating Hillary. I don't know if any of the GOPers could beat out Obama though...

How many people know what Hillary's for? Hell, how many people know what McCain's for? Do you know what McCain's health care policy is (it's totally ridiculous, incidentally)?

Stump speeches rarely go into detailed policy, and Obama's no exception.
