      From the article linked above:

Huckabee is so utterly unserious about policy that he urged that the government should cut AIDS research funding and Hollywood should pick up the slack. AIDS is not an exclusively gay disease. Nor does Hollywood has any interest in medical research. Huckabee shows an unwillingness to learn. That is a quality he shares with George W. Bush. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if Huckabee wins Iowa.
Huckabee wanted to slash funding for diseases like AIDS and then said "Hollywood" should fund it if they cared. As if it was Hollywoods job to develop public health policy or fund research on diseases instead of the governments. The guy is just loony as daffy duck.

Liberal Democrats and at least a few fundie Christians voted in 2000 for Veep for someone who (if he was serious about the what he purported believe) believed that all Jews, but only the righteous among the gentiles, have a place in the world to come, and that righteous Jews spend their time there studying Torah at the feet of the great rabbinic scholars of history. Oh, and the food is supposed to be very good, IIUC.

WTF? If Huck wins Iowa, I think the GOP establishment chucks Romney and makes a goal line stand around Giuliani. Theres too much at stake.

This is assuming a Huck win. There's going to be a lot of attacks in the next few weeks on Huck, now that he's the prohibitive frontrunner for IA and the nomination. And Romney's still a lot better positioned in the early states than Giuliani. Even if Romney loses IA, he still has the best shot at stopping Huck in NH. SC is up in the air, but will be tilted by whomever wins NH. If Huck sweeps the early states, the nomination is probably his.

If you look at the negatives Giuliani has in some of the early states (especially SC), backing him over Romney doesn't seem particularly wise.

Like for the Democrats, I think the race ultimately comes down to IA. If Huck gets a solid win, he probably gets the nomination; if Romney comes close or beats him, he probably wins.

IMO Romney must win Iowa now. He's staked his candidacy on being the front runner, and has poured tons of money.

And he has more to spare. Huck peaked too soon. It's a blessing for Mitt that there are polls a month out that show him behind by a double-digit margin. Now the corporate wing of the GOP is going to throw everything it has against Huck. There's going to be a polling blackout during Christmas, and if Romney comes in close to over Huck, he's a shoe-in in NH, etc., etc.

A homophobic, racist, xenophobic, and sexist bigot?

Huh? Re: homophobia and sexism, I said as much in the post you quoted and the folllowing ones. And I don't think he's any more racist or xenophobic that the other Republican candidates. If anything, he's less so (with the possible exception of McCain)

Did Romney insinuate that he was Christian? Honestly, I can't remember, but if so, then it's fair game for Huckabee to point out the target audience that they don't believe he is.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. Google Mormon man god doctrine and while you're at it look up the Mormon magic under pants. Oh, and then look at how the book of Mormon says black people are cursed by god (that's why they're black ) and how up to 1978 blacks couldn't be Mormon priests because they were to "tainted".

Scientology is just about the only religion out there even more nuts then Mormonism. It's clearly not even remotely Christian.

AFAICT, Romney has only brought it up when he's been challenged on it. I searched his website, and it didn't say anything about it there.

Romney said that his faith will not influence his decisions. Huck is saying "damn straight it influences my decisions".

None of that, however, really touches on why Thompson is in trouble . He already has a reputation as a lazy candidate. Losing big in Iowa and NH may reinforce that notion (he didn't try hard enough) and the base may decide that he doesn't have what it takes to go toe to toe with Hillary.
                            It's a marathon not a sprint.

The only ones who are saying that Thompson is lazy are the democrats. Really, he won twice in tennessee by 20+ points.

If the worst complaint about Thompson is that he's lazy, well they said the same thing about Coolidge.

Fundamentalist christians believe this as well. Black people are the "sons of Ham" who IIRC was the 'bad' son of Noah. This was some of the rational behind slavery (rehabilitating them)...

How do you isolate AIDS victims from all other people without removing them from the general population? It's impossible. They'd have to be put into camps. The guy is just attempting to back away from his previous policy. No one will call him a flip flopper for this?
