And yes Lorizael, there IS a great deal of subtle racism among the police (and ageism too). Racial profiling is very real and is definitely a problem.

But to assume that we were treated well because we were white is just stupid. Especially because almost every other encounter I've had with a police officer has gone badly, and I wasn't treated well at all. Did I transform ala Michael Jackson in the mean time? I don't think so.

You are right to say that Arrian is pretty silly to assume b etor is lying to us, cause anyone one of us could be putting on a show here. But no one ever makes accusations like that when someone is assumed to be an adult.

But that's the thing. At what point did Arrian say that he distrusted b etor because she was young? Never.

If the cop had said, "Now I'm lettin' you two off light 'cuz you ain't ******s, but be more careful next time," I might have wondered whether or not he was racist. But the fact that he treated people who happened to be white well does not imply that he would treat black people poorly.

The fact that Arrian happened to question the authenticity of a young poster does not mean he wouldn't question older posters. Take a ****ing logic course.

I have been treated poorly by the police too. But you seem to assume the police have a binary good/bad switch. No doubt your bad encounter would have been even worse if you were a young, black male.

So you expect racists to explicitly declare themselves to be racist before you suspect anything? And even then you wonder whether or not they are racist. Real life isn't as clear or overt as you are making it out to be. Not all racists wear sheets and burn crosses. Heck, not all people who have a bias are necessarily "racist".

I have many friends who, if we drive through a neighborhood and see mostly black people will automatically be worried and say we are driving through a "bad neighborhood". Does that mean they hate black people? No. But they have an unconscious association of black people with crime and make that connection. That is still a racist outlook and a racist viewpoint though they'd never explicitly say "look at all the ******s, lets get the hell out of here".

Inherently? No. Certainly there can be cases where someone is being taken advantage of, or duped or what have you, but it is foolish to draw those conclusions simply from someone's birthdate. Legally there is nothing wrong with it either.

That is a 5 year gap. My parents are 8 years apart. I wouldn't say there is something wrong with my parent's marriage either.

I beg to differ. My encounter may have been worse. You are making an unfounded assumption that all or most police officers have some bias against black people. I challenge you to prove this.

I'm sorry, but I do not begin to suspect people of something so serious as racism before they provide evidence of it.

Treating a white person well is not evidence of racism. Period.

If a black friend of mine had somehow encountered this same state trooper previously and received worse treatment, then I might suspect something; that would be evidence.

But treating a white person well is not evidence of racism. Period.
