I haven't put any words in your mouth that you haven't already said Ozzy. You believe 16 year olds to be adults and therefore entitled to the same rights as anyone else.

Again, these laws are in place to protect young people. I don't see how you are doing them a service by removing their legal protections.

That is a 5 year gap. My parents are 8 years apart. I wouldn't say there is something wrong with my parent's marriage either.

I see something wrong in someone who has graduated college finding a 16 year old who is in the middle of high school appealing. Why can't this mature 21 year old wait until his girlfriend is an adult before they take up with each other?

It's not the age gap between people that matters, it's whether or not both are mature adults. Now personally I don't always agree with the law, but to assert that an 8-year gap being ok means therefore that sex between a 15 year old and a 23 year old is fine... that's kinda silly.

There is a 22.5 year gap between my parents. My mother, however, was 25 or so when they met. She was a mature adult.

If you switch it to 15/37, however... that is highly likely to be a case of a man taking advantage of a girl. Is it necessarily so? Perhaps not, but most of us believe that it's very likely and therefore some sort of law needs to be in place to prevent it.

Mature 21 year old and adult girlfriend. I don't think these two should necessarily go together. If the 21 year old is mature, and the girlfriend is mature, what else matters? Adult is really just a legal term, and may or may not necessarily have anything to do with the truth of the matter.

If two individuals are both mature and consenting, who is being protected by preventing them from engaging in acts they both wish to engage in?

I'd rather pose a different question - why should they have to wait? What purpose is there in waiting? If they are two consenting, mature individuals, what good is the law doing them?

Of course they can wait. It's not impossible at all. But at that point the law is a hindrance to them, and not a protection. At that point they are obeying the law not because it's the right thing to do, but simply because it's the law. And if that's the case, it's evidence to me that the law needs changing.

And yes Lorizael, there IS a great deal of subtle racism among the police (and ageism too). Racial profiling is very real and is definitely a problem.

You are right to say that Arrian is pretty silly to assume b etor is lying to us, cause anyone one of us could be putting on a show here. But no one ever makes accusations like that when someone is assumed to be an adult.

We don't assume she is lying because she is young. We assume she is lying because she's only been posting a few days. We don't even know if she is really a female and not a DL. Once we've gotten to know her (as much as possible in an internet forum), we'd be more likely to believe her.
