"Are you from BC? If so, how are people there taking that stupid move Campbell pulled in Hawaii?"

    Willem- I'm from BC.

Liberals (small l) and the NDP supporters are castigating Campbell for hypocrisy, as he publicly stated that any Premier accused of a crime should step down until the investigation has finished.

The party is just shaking off the complaints. No non-confidence motion anytime soon.

Campbell will fall for one reason and one reason only-
failing to balance the budget. This Campbell case will lower some of his support, but not much.

Based on an emissions tax of 15$ per ton (which is what the gov't said it would probably peg the price at). The oil industry (at least the bright parts of it) are seeing an opportunity here...

They want the oil. But what he doesn't know is that nobody gets out of this country alive. Quebec's been whining for 300 years, but it's still trapped. We're a big dysfunctional family where everybody threatens to move out, but nobody wants to pay the rent or do their own laundry.

That in no way affects things like the job market in Alberta, it just adds to provincial coffers ($108M/year for every $1 increase) and company profits.

The problem isn't the emissions tax they're worried about.

The problem is we need to reduce emissions. The oil sands projects are HUGE polluters, they work by mining and converting -- it pollutes more than normal oil extraction by a good deal. The Federal government may do something to stop that, because every new project drastically increases Canada's pollution...which undermines the purpose of Kyoto.

Last time I checked this was not a Canadienthreade, Willem.

He's already been taking it up the ass in the polls, hasn't he? His hospital closures and layoffs weren't exactly popular. My prediction is 4 years of Campbell followed by another 15 years of NDP rollercoaster.

Ok. I hope in future times you and all other Canadians will refrain from commenting interal US politics

It must be frustrating to live in a region of the US that's less significant than Canada.

I can guarantee you it was most likely from a company already completed (or too far in to pull out) project. They're doing it to save their stocks.

The companies that were looking at starting projects have been reconsidering and shelving projects...

                            Hmmm....

Let's see: any time an American comments on Canadian politics (aside from a few exceptions) all he can contribute is to encourage bits of Canada to break away and join the US. You're welcome to do so, Shi, but it would be much more interesting if you would go to the trouble of getting some background first...

Hey, they jump down my throat when I stick my nose in their politics! So I feel perfectly justified in dishing some back when they do the same to us.

According to the media, but some of the people like this image change. I saw a hilarious political cartoon today, comparing the Campbell before the election, and the Campbell afterwards.

The before Campbell wore underwear on top of his pants. Now Campbell just wears briefs on his head.

People were promised economic prosperity under the new Campbell era. If he balances the budget, he'll be fine. Hospital closings only an issue in the Lower Mainland. In the North, the big deal is with the courthouses and the schools.

Most BC'ers don't mind taking these sacrifices so long as the province turns the corner. We're all envious of Alberta and the Klein revolution.
