And which province (and cities) in particular have the best economies in Canada?

IIRC, Calgary is the #1 in economic growth, Edmonton is #3.

That covers both major cities in Alberta.

Calgary is more right wing than Edmonton, which is why we're higher.

Vancouver is doing very well for job growth.
The rest of the province is awful.

Oil industry is hardly booming in Alberta right now.

There's been several multi-billion oilsands projects that have been put on hold or canceled altogether due to uncertainty with Kyoto and increasing costs...

Manufacturing, information technology, and the service industry are booming.

IBM just opened up a big research center here, for example...

Are you from BC? If so, how are people there taking that stupid move Campbell pulled in Hawaii?

Alberta as the only sensible province in that country should just break away from Canada.

NDP polled at 11% in Quebec in December, and their overall support's gone up since then (can't find breakdown on latest poll). I've never seen such a thing before...

No province actually breaks away from Canada. They just whine and threaten to do so.

The cost-estimates from Kyoto are hovering around 25 cents a barrel, which is hardly significant (<1% of final price)

Suncor is trying to save its stock, it's put in too much investment to pull out, Frogger.

Just last week it was front-page news about a shelved project that was multi-billion dollars due to increasing costs and Kyoto uncertainty.

How the hell can they have a cost estimate like that when the federal government hasn't said how it's going to deal with the Alberta oilsands???

My point is not that there aren't closures of projects, but that it doesn't look like the Alberta oil industry is in any sort of overall slide...

As an American, I don't see how you have any business saying who should or shouldn't break away.

No, but it's not GROWING either.

I never said it was in a slide.

At least 3 major projects have been shelved that were supposed to begin in 2003, each worth billions of dollars.
