                        • Democrats have a lot to think about. They continue to lose ground nationally. Republicans have controlled Congress for 12 years. (With a short hiatus due to Senator Jeffers going Independent.) Republican Congressional margins are increasinng. An unpopular, inarticulate president is re-elected over a smooth and eloguent Democrat candidate. In fact, no Democrat presidential candidate has won even 50% of the vote since Carter in '76. Carter was also the last Democrat to sweep the South. (Note please that Clinton, like Carter, was also a Southern Democrat.)

Why are the Democrats increasingly becoming a minority party?

The consensus view among the talking heads is that they are on the wrong side of the social values equation. Since Reagan, social conservatives, regardless of economic status, are increasingly voting Republican. There seems no way for the Democrats ever to reverse this trend until and unless they move once again to America's social values center.

                              • Iowa, Nevada and Wisconsin and MAYBE Ohio will remain within recounting range.
To win , Bush needs either Ohio, or all the other 3.
