I think that's misleading. How much money do we make while we're in college? We're mostly pretty freakin' poor while going to school, and once out of college get decent jobs that put us in the "middle class." If we remove people who are temproarily "slumming it," I think the tendency is for poor people to stay poor, hence the large pools of generationally poor Blacks and rural whites.

Whats more statistically speaking of the population it is far more likely that they will be in the higher(est) tax brackets than below poverty line. Again I don't know of what study these claims originate and so can not prove or disprove.

That's crap. Most wage earners are in the 2nd or third tier from the bottom. I made more than the average family income last year and I was still only in the third income bracket from the bottom.

    • Like I said I don't have the study to refer to.

OTOH, regardless if the study was a comparison vs. the rest of the world the details become normalized as presumably youth (students) in other countries suffer from economic hardship equally.

Rent has very little to do with costs. The costs are less than have of the rent.

One I have some control over and one I don't. If you will notice this thread is about rent and the inability of owners of older model mobile homes to find a lot. It's not about me getting a raise or any of that other crap that you keep mentioning. You would love to make this about me, and try to make me look like a bum, but this thread isn't about that. Too bad you can't start a thread like that, huh? Is that why you keep trying to jack this one?

            • I have a buddy who works in Visalia and lives in Fresno, it's only an hour away. Firebaugh, Kerman, Lemore, Sanger... tons of little hodunk towns around there that should have cheaper rent. Though I haven't lived in Fresno for over a decade now.

Armstrong and Getty (radio dudes) had this guy on this morning:

Bingo... and that's the main problem. Instead of say a 10 hour a week job, he is posting for hours and hours on Poly every day. If he was out on the street and didn't have time to post on Poly, we'd feel much more sympathy.
Once again you don't know anything about it. You don't even know how long I'm here. It's not nearly that often, and it certainly isn't when I have something more productive to do.

No. People don't want to talk about the problem. This is nothing more than a thread jack. I don't really care, because it only supports my case. You want to do it fine. Then I will keep pointing out the obvious.

So let's get ourselves some actual details: income stats, rent stats, etc, so we can actually evaluate this.

You don't beleive me? I will post some stuff here, but why don't you believe me? When people's rents go up life sucks. It doesn't have to be that way. It's that way because poor people are a minority in this country. They are treated unfairly and taken advantage of.

The rent is less than 5% cheaper, but I may be able to find a place there. That's what's important.

I don't really care, since nobody I know is in Fresno. You would get three hots and a cot and not have to worry about paying rent, ever, though.

                      I said "appropriate" action, anyway.

There is no action. I already told you that I pay the least amount of rent possible. YOU AREN"T LISTENING! YOU DON'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE SIMPLE TRUTHS!

                          • What?

Actually, I just indicated a willingness to discuss the problem (which, I *think* is the issue of rent vs. income, and how rent increases effect rentors). But not without hard information. Vague statements like "it sucks when your rent goes up" are not very useful if one actually wants to take a problem seriously and attempt to evaluate and address it.

Frankly, I don't want to look up income levels vs. rent costs (if that info is even available). So screw it. You believe what you believe and I'll believe what I believe, with neither one of us basing our opinions on anything other than personal experience + underlying assumptions - aka our ideologies.

                              • Most of what I make goes to rent, but that is what happens when you live where I do.

Fresno has relatively low cost of living, but since the tech collapse has been inflated as all the dot com'ers moved out of silicon valley, dumping their million dollar homes onto ppl who can actually afford them, and buying up real estate in the Fresno and Reno areas. Fresno has seen real estate prices go up almost 100% in the past 4 years, and ppl are getting greedy.

I can see why Kid is having a problem.

It's all them damn illegals living in Fresno taking up all the good jobs!
