In the UK whiz is slang for either amphetamines or urine depending on context/what part of the country you are in.

To be fair to the American continent as a whole, Canadian gets imported lots into the UK. So does NZ and Aussie.

My favourite would have be the Aussie, then the NZ (Aussie's got more salt) but the Canadian has a very creamy flavour and compares well to either. It certainly is good cheese.

I wouild guess that US cheese has problems being imported in the UK (dairy farming is very big here and you're not a conventional ex-colony like the others). Judging from the comments I would say we're not missing much.

Yes, I did 6 months work in a cheese wrapping plant, so I've had contact with tons of the stuff.

The best Cheddar in the world (all the above are better than KSJ, AKA Kraft-Suchard-Jacobs) is made by Horlicks Farms. It's rare, quite expensive, and absolutely tops.

Unless you start talking vintage or special reserve, which is really all the others left to rot.... er, mature even more.

American cheese is a real cheese. The Kraft permutation--presliced and individually wrapped--is a mutation of genuine American cheese, not a good example. Most commercial brands like that have more oil than milk.
          MMM... "processed cheese food." Yuck.

I will use American Cheese from the deli (the "real" American cheese of which Boris speaks) and it's fine - it does the job. It also tends to be cheap.

          Hersh,

Don't worry about us, we can get lots of different cheeses in our supermarkets. There is a whole section devoted to cheese (the plastic wrapped slices are elsewhere) near the deli, which also has even more cheese.

MrWhereItsAt fell victim to one of the classic blunders. Never get into a land war in Asia, never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line, and never, ever, eat at Micky D's and think you've experienced American food.

The only thing the British are good at is cheese.

Actually, America exports cheddar all over the world. Wisconsin and Vermont cheddars are regarded among the finest there is.

Not just because of it's white bread, but because it's the worst bread there is.

Same thing with american bread. Sorry, but thats just how it is. I know a lot of you are used to eating it, but that doesnt mean its any good (compared to real bread).

American bread? What? Which kind, the whole wheat, the 8 grain, the 12 grain, or the white?

I don't really like American cheese so much... but Wisconsin or Vermont chedder is YUMM! Though I also love Swiss, Monterey Jack, etc... and of course the blue veined cheeses...

Ok, I just love all sorts of cheese... even Easy Cheese .

Oh that reminds me of that funny yankee, who boasted about having a choice between 30 different kinds of bread at some superstore in godknowswhatcity, USA... well I guess he was joking.

Nope, it sounded a bit like your list: white, half-white, dark, or so...
