Baku and Maikop are close by...

One little lonely NKWD unit walked around the hills near Mosul. My first attack against the communists was succesfully. So my next target will be Baku.
But I should leave some of my troops back to west africa. The Allies conquer one city to another from Vichy-France.

      • Operation Torch just happened and was for the Allies very successfully. All former french cities are under their control and also conquered Tunis. I hope I can stop them in Lybia, otherwise they will overrun Egypt and liberate the Middle East. All my African Troops are just before Baku...

First US Troops were seen in Sicily, I think I can defend this little Island. Two Motor Troops, two Italian Troops and one AA-Gun are protecting the cities of southern Italy.

          • Can missing the messages for changing files be linked with using saved files? Switching only works correctly if I use a file named D7 when switching, right? And if I save a game in other months, do I have to name it D7 as well, or can it just be any name?

            • If using the batch, you MUST use the D7 save.
The batch is set up to use that SAV file. The events or switches don't work otherwise.

Now I understand why people have been having trouble. When using batch files, you must use that save!
The alternative is to use Merc's system, covered earlier in the thread, but you still cannot do multiple saves.

The best way with the batch system is to save under a different name, but rename to D7 when you reload.

Yes, I noticed it yesterday. My Fighters and AA-Guns didn´t had any realistic chance of shot down some Mustangs.
Operation Husky was a desaster for the Allies. They attacked my cities with the GI´s and fortified the Sexton Artillery. So it was no problem for me with my counterattacks against the Sextons.
In North Africa all Allied troops are around Tunis. They don´t start any attacks on Lybia. Two of my Battleships are bombing the tanks which are driving around the african coast.

Btw, Baku is under my control. The Germans and Soviets have heavy battles near Kiev.

I´m in July 1944 and missing the D-Day...

But if I make a save, in say august '43 (under that name), then exit the game, and reload the august '43 save the next day, will it give trouble? If I leave the game, during summer '43 settings, do I have to reload those settings (run the batch file again) when starting up Civ again, or are those settings still in place when I load the saved august '43 game?

                  • To go into further detail:

At the end of the november '43 turn, I now do get the message to change files.

-Should I let the turn continue (AI civs), go through the proces of city reports, then save the file, quit, run the batch and reload the game?

                    or

-Leave the message on the screen (don't click ok), run the batch file, run the AI civs and city reports, save, leave and reload?

                    Does it make a difference?

When loading the game for winter '43, I got this error message. The game did load after that, but suddenly I was trading techs with the finnish and the romanians though...

I will run a whole new game from scratch, to see if I can run a game to nov '46 without errors.

                    • It might be best to start a new game (troublesome I know!) and save games using the D7 save.

                      A sort of "House Rule:"
When the change event pops up, it is usually during an AI turn.
So let the AI take their moves, and when it is your turn, save
and run the batch. Then reload. No moves or attacks are allowed
till files are switched! Good luck and remember save as D7.sav!

                      • Well, I tried (with the clean install and only using the D7 save) and failed again. Might have been my own fault. I got the message to change files after november '41. But since I was so absent minded, I actually made a few moves in december before I remembered to change files. Not sure if that's the problem, but i didn't get the message to switch files for may.
I've noticed that with the summer/winter changes you need to get the larger background screen with the T34 with the text message to make it work right. When I only get the message text about the change, i'm screwed.

                        • I do not understand really where you are going wrong, PietH.

If you have installed the files in the way I recommended,
which is to have 'events' in the main Dictator7 folder, but
also to have all other events (1-11) in an Events folder,
you cannot go wrong if you are saving as D7.sav -

Did you find the enemy's resistance in any way fun/challenging?

To be honest, I was concentrating on conquering the Reich before the Soviets did to notice. I did notice that my main Nazi opponents seemd to consist mainly of Schutzen and AA batteries, with some infantry and a few generals to spare. Though, it must be said, I did see quite a few Rocket Mortar batteries parked outside my seige lines (though I tended to destroy them before they could damage my forces ). Using the cheat menu, I found out that the (now tankless) Nazis had lost a total of 40 armored/mechanized units (excepting Assault Guns), with the largest category being the Hetzer (17 units lost).

Although I will say that the AI was quite aggressive; whether it channeled that aggresiveness into the right channels is a different matter. I know that while I was campaigning through France and Germany it was not uncommon to have to fight Italian and Vichy troops, tanks, and even generals (!) coming up from the south. Of course, this is the AI that led a Vichy invasion of the Caucasus, so it's heart (so the speak) is in the right place.

My main complaint still is that when playing against the AI (at least as the Allies), there doesn't seem to be much use for tanks (except in the North African front, and those tanks are usually event-generated); I tended to build Sextons and Assault Guns, as they seemed to be more effective in taking down the Schutzen and AA batteries that seemed to garrison most cities. I know that one way to solve that is to give the enemy a good number of armored units every turn; I did such a thing in 2013: A Union Divided, but to do that (and not unbalance the game) you'd have to have seperate events files for each playable civ or something and, given all the event files et cetera you've got right now, that might confuse things a bit too much.

Though, overall, I'd have to say that since the campaign against the AI was a good war of maneuver that was neither a pushover nor a bloody stagnation (like most of WWI ), I'd have to say that overall, you've done a good job!

Do you put your savegame in the Dictator folder, the same folder the batch file is in as well?

                              • Within my main D7 folder, I have a folder 'events', with 11 event files. In the main D7 folder, I have one events.txt file, 26kb in size.

The D7 save is standard in de main D7 folder, same as the batch file. Should it be in the saves folder?
