If you allow me a short "outsider" comment (and Curt, please, don't get mad at my suggestion... ).

Why not use a different set of rules/events if the game is with German player, Russian player, Multiplayer, etc., with only small modifications to those files

You could for instance have something like:
    - NOT German Player: give more units to the german at the start through the event file (whose size isn't much a problem in ToT)
    - NOT Russian player: lower the cost of Russian units so that the AI can produce a "realistic" flow of them
    - and so on

What do you think (except that it would give a little more work, especially to check the various balances)?

    • Interesting idea, I sort if suggested something along those lines before. But I have no idea if that is feasible, and if Curt would be willing to do all the work.

      • Check out Marko Urm's monumental scen, THE STRUGGLE FOR EUROPE. It has 64 Rules files and 84 Events files. Amazing.

I've played it as both the Allies and the Axis and it plays well.

            • Started a new game as the Allies, got to about August '41 (or November ... no, I think it was August)...

I've managed to make significant inroads in France (what was Churchill thinking, waiting until '44 to invade Fortress Europe? I took Le Havre in July '41 and the Nazis haven't kicked me out! ), having taking Paris and Lille, as well as most of the cities on the western French coast (thanks in no small part to the Battleships, as well as the Transport's large movement rate. )

The North African front is going slower than usual, with much less armor on my side than usual. There is a bit more "field action" (I think), as there are more enemy units I have to destroy before embarking on the city sieges. I know I've reached Benghazi, mabe El Agheila (sp?), and I do plan on playing a bit more.

There also seems to be fewer text events than before...

              • Did anyone else use the last patch and encounter the event text error for winter '41?

I reinstalled the version2 download, and started another game as the germans. I made a detour around Minsk (I saw 2 soviet generals, tanks and many aircraft rushing in there for protection) this time

I'm now in august '42, and things have gone well. The spring offensive of 1942 has been very succesful, with Leningrad and Moscow captured, Tiflis under control and on my way to Baku. My troops are at the gates of Stalingrad, which should be secured before the winter sets in.

The spring '43 offensive will be for taking the oil fields in the middle east and capturing London.

I cut back on them to help things move along faster...

If people would prefer more city capture events, I can add a few back in?

While I am tempted to go for individual events....(and might do it still!) The main problem for me is the VAST amount of
files that would have to be created...And then there are the other factions to think of...There would most likely need
to be an Allied series of events/rules done too...And then the minor Axis civs as well! As I said, it would be tempting,
but I would be tempted to start all over again with rules and tweaks I would be editing this scenario till 2010!

                        Hmmm....

I could do it, but I would have to wrack my brain to re-organise the batch files, content and events/rules.

One option would be to add twice as many choices to the batch, in order to reflect Axis and Allies.
It would need two seperate Allied and Axis Rules and Events folders, which could be picked from...

Here is my idea for a projected Allied and Axis batch file...

                        "Make Sceranio era choice"

                        (A) Axis: Summer 1941
                        (B) Axis: Winter 1941
                        (C) Axis: Summer 1942
                        (D) Axis: Winter 1942
                        (E) Axis: Summer 1943
                        (F) Axis: Winter 1943
                        (G) Axis: Summer 1944
                        (H) Axis: Winter 1944
                        (I) Axis: Summer 1945
                        (J) Axis: Winter 1945
                        (K) Axis: Summer 1946

                        (L) Allies: Summer 1941

                        • Been thinking about Dictator today, and I have came to the decision that the current version should be treated as the
official current playable version...I have decided to remake the monster from ground up - This is a radical choice!

But before everyone groans...Do not worry as I think this process will be fast...As I have all the components at hand.
I have been making a newer WW2 scenario alongside Dictator, which is called 'The Eurasian Wars', and it contains many
superior design concepts than Dictator7, which was started long before, and still carries baggage from that period.

I do not intend to change the map, or anything other than the events, rules and units. I want to perfect the gameplay.

I have decided to make the new scenario leaner, meaner and with less tech-obsession than before...Now I plan to only
include the techs that lead to vast changes in the player's capabilities, meaning advanced units and city upgrades.
I want to have each civ having some kind of cool unit(s) that are worth the effort to wait for, and to enjoy using.

This plan will include a new unit list, new tech tree and new events, and a totally new map placement...I guess
this entire process will take me till the ned of July...Maybe even faster. The end result will lead to a far
more rounded and playable game, with less 'surplus'...I want to make less units do more, so turns are faster.

The whole endeavour will lend itself nicely to the concept of full Allied and Axis specific events, which will
make Dictator7 the ultimate monster scenario I have tackled so far. So play on with the current version, and I
promise to bring you something even better in a few weeks, as ever you have my appreciation!

Stay tuned for the new epic version!

                            • I´m now in January '44. German troops conquered Moscow and Leningrad, now marching deeper into eastern Russia.

My attempts to invade Sicily and southern Italy are successfully. The campaign in North Africa goes to it´s end, it is only a question of time if the Vichy-France troops will surrender.
In Britain I´m producing many B-17´s for bombing those damn Nazis out of France.

During my playtest I didn´t notice anything wrong, only the events file from winter '41 don´t work.

Sounds interesting with the new Dictator scenario idea. I´m looking forward to see more of this.
