The reason this matters, is that the line is, that Wii hardly sells any games, what it does sell is all first party, and they are NEVER going to sell third party games even once 3rd parties start making games for the Wii. As someone on a site which must not be named said, Metroid aside, most Wii games have sold as well as expected. That GH3 is selling better on Wii than on 360 is a feather in the cap for them, even IF some folks say they expected it, and even IF it fits the Wii base better than the FPS that are so important to the 360 lineup.

Now its nice that 360 is still leading the genre (I assume that theres no big sellers in it for the Wii further down the sales list) but to Activision, this is a sign that the RIGHT 3rd party games CAN sell on the Wii. And isnt GH sound on the Wii inferior - maybe its NOT a good match for the Wii.

        • Oh, Asher. Your attempts of insulting everybody and their grandma is soooo cute. And I must say it's also kind of cute that you continue doing so while accusing others of doing that same thing.

But I really had to laugh when I saw your characteristics of my entire country. It's so lame as it can get.

Theres gotta be a typo in there, right?
            Why would there be?

As I said, I expected the Wii version to sell the most. Few reasons why:

            1) GHIII is a rather social/casual game and meshes well with the audience
            2) GHIII for Wii was cheapest
            3) GHII came out still relatively recently for the 360, and GHIII isn't sufficiently different to warrant a new purchase for many people (myself included). GHIII for the 360 was impacted by the previous sales of GHII.
            4) 360 gamers could also choose between GHIII and Rock Band, which isn't a choice on the Wii

The reason this doesn't show anything is already described several times for you.

There are already 1.74million Guitar Hero II games that were recently sold for the 360. Guitar Hero III is fundamentally the same game in a short period of time on the same platform, it's to be expected it doesn't match up right away.

Despite this, so far (not just this month) the Guitar Hero III sales are thus:
                360: 1.28mil
                Wii: 0.77 mil

A simple google will deconstruct your argument. You seem to have forgotten that last month GHIII on the 360 sold 658,000 units in its first month, while GHIII on the Wii sold 271,000 units in its first months.

The Wii is barely outselling the 360 version now and I do expect that to continue, but it's absolutely nothing to cream your pants over...

Wii owners only have one choice when it comes to that kind of game - Guitar Hero 3. There was no Wii version of GH2, and no Wii version of Rock Band has been released.

If I own a 360 (and assuming I liked that sort of game) I probably had already spent some $$ and bought GH2. Then I had a choice between GH3 and Rock Band. The games are so similar it is impossible to compare GH3 sales without taking Rock Band into account.

why are GH3 sales growing on the Wii, while declining on the 360? Surely its not the GH2 factor, that should lead 360 sales to gradually grow on the 360. reasons for the decline are the usual dropoff from first month sales, and the greater availability of alternate games, not just RB but all the big sellers on the 360. But on the Wii the first month effect has not prevented sales from growing. And while Wii hasnt had a big hit the last few weeks, SMG sales are still quite strong.

Yes,the 360 sells a lot of software. They have lots of popular titles. If youre a SW developer, is the idea that sales for a given title were weaker on the 360 cause there are so many games out for it consolation? Given two consoles with roughly the same installed base, the first of which has several times the attach rate, but also several times the number of AAA titles competing for attention, is it necessarilly better to develop for that first one?

There are far more games to choose from in the holiday season for the 360 than the Wii.

Are you intentionally ignoring the fact that the sales are not weaker, or are you having issues reading?

I was going by the number here.

Did you misread and miss the "a specific title" and think I meant all SW on 360 was weaker?

BTW, for anyone who cares, Wii-Zapper-Links crossbow training apparently sold over 200k units.

                          WTF are you talking about?

The specific title we're both talking about is GHIII. GHIII has sold a lot more on the 360 than the Wii. Its sales are therefore not weaker. Don't understand the problem here.

LTD, so far thats correct. But in November Wii outsold, and the response has been - "thats ok, theres so much for the 360". I dont think youre saying that if Wii ultimately outsells the 360 on GH3 then Activision will not think developing for the Wii is a good idea. I think youre saying that even IF the November trend continues, rather than reverting the earlier trend, Activision will be unimpressed with the Wii cause there was so much else on sale for the 360.

The contrast is with Metroid. It sold poorly on the Wii, despite no FPS competion that Im aware of, which was a pretty damning case wrt selling FPS on the Wii, period. GH3 shows that the right kind of 3rd party SW can sell on the Wii - it does better with an uncrowded market, but is the market for AAA titles of the Wii looking crowded? And again, this despite word that the Wii version of GH3 had major technical limitations.

                            • The simple fact is the Wii GH3 has not come close to selling more than the 360's. The fact that in one month in particular the Wii sold slightly more is nothing to base any reasonable argument on.

I'm not going to continue this with you, because it's a ridiculous argument with no foundation in reality (again).
