  • Norway's largest news paper VG has set up the top 20 games in 2007: http://www1.vg.no/spill/artikkel.php?artid=188994

Note that Halo3 isn't present. One of the editors says he thinks Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is better.

Okay Asher, now you can let out your rightful rage.

      • I'm giving my Nintendo Wii away as a christmas present to my brother to use at my parents house. I figure they'll get more fun out of it than I with Twilight Princess, Metroid, 6 or 7 GameCube titles, plus Wii Sports and Mario Galaxy (which I still want to play since I missed out on Mario 64, and Mario Sunshine was sh*tty.) I just don't see any game coming out on the Wii that will utilize the Wiimote in a meaningful way. As I've said before, maybe next time, they'll bump up the hardware specs sufficiently. In the meantime, the 360 is gamer's heaven.

Is that their opinion of the Top 20 games, or is that based on actual sales? The furrinerspeak, and all..

No, it's their top 20, based on their review scores and personal taste.

Can you read it? I guess not. But what it says is how they have made the list; the top 6 is their 6/6 score games this year, the rest the ones which have surfed on the border to 6/6. But I didn't expect you to read Norwegian, only to see the game titles.

beste spill is obviously best game, (close enough to Yiddish) but the rest is Greek to me, as they say.

Ok, well that list's junk. Tell me what was so special about Orange Box? It's tripe. And honestly, I think Bioshock is overrated. A great game, its just that everyone acted as if it had no flaws, when it had several obvious ones.

Anyway, I don't think you can rationally conclude that Halo 3 wouldn't belong in a Top 20 Games of 2007 list. You could hate the game to death, doesn't detract from its insane popularity and effect.

Norway's entire existence is based upon the concept of being stupid and irrelevant. I wouldn't be surprised if their media is directly controlled by the government to ensure citizens are fed trash like that list.

Aren't you cute, being manipulated like a naive peon just like the rest of the mainstream media. You have to admit, the more time passes the more right I become. Now Nintendo's flat-out admitting they don't need to advertise since the media does it for them.

Think about it -- when was the last time companies issued press releases detailing what they plan to do with ad space they purchased? They are getting Nintendo and Wii and DS put into every newspaper around the world by proclaiming there to be runaway demand for the console that no one on this planet could ever match! Astonishing! SHOCKING!@ AMAZING!!! The whole purpose of this press release was free advertising and further contribution to the panicked marketplace.

To anyone with a shred of analytical ability in their brain, this move clearly supports the theory I've presented this year.

I've actually got two Wiis in my apartment. Shocking, isn't it.

My BF got one when he was back in Calgary and I got one also when I was here. We're going to mod one, and if it works, we'll keep that and sell the other. There are virtually no Wii games worth buying, so why not.

Right now they both, literally, collect lots of dust. We played about 10 mins worth of SMG last week and the layers of dust were truly disgusting. While SMG isn't a bad game, it certainly isn't engaging like SM64 was and it doesn't make me want to go back and pick it up. In the meantime, Mass Effect awaited...

Speaking to colleagues around the office (disclaimer: we're intelligent software consultants, not ditzy housewives or japanese schoolgirls), it's the same everywhere. The Wii-mania from the first half of the year is quiet. The only people vocal about it now about how great it is, are the people who don't own one yet to be disappointed about it.

Once again, this goes back to my earlier comments during the Wii's launch -- the hardware is undercooked and the Wiimote is too inaccurate and twitchy to be a full-fledged input device for real games. Because of this, we're seeing lots of Cooking Mamas, Trauma Centres, Dogz, My Sims, etc. Stupid, shallow, derivative **** that I'm sure asleepatthewheel will continue to be thrilled with, but something most people scoff at and get bored of almost instantaneously.

The real reason there's so many Wiis on ebay/craigslist isn't because of people taking advantage of the hot market, it's cause it's frickin' boring.

Shocking, and to think how many folks believe that press releases are NOT meant to attract get free publicity.

And that of course means that whatever was announced in the press release, was ALWAYS done just for the purpose of doing the press release and getting free publicity.

                            • HW - note, thats after PS3 price cuts.

Wii is still selling very well, and still building its installed base lead.

SW - 360 has both a customer base that buys a lot of games, and has had some very good games out. It continues to do very well on multiplatform games as against PS3, due to a large installed base for some titles, but for some titles beyond what the installed base can explain.

Wii - with 3 titles in the top ten, and with a Wii title at 11, theyre at least selling some SW. Though not third party SW so much, with the notable exception of GH3.

Not always, just when it serves no other purpose.

When Microsoft buys ad space originally intended for MS Office and replaces it with one for Xbox, does it issue a press release?
