You are aware that from a development point of view, the Wii is the Gamecube is the Wii?

Yes, the control scheme can be different, but this does not require "fresh" development on the Wii.

You're going to be in for a major disappointment if you think anything the Wii is getting will be "freshly" developed. The Wii is somewhat appealing to developers because it's a great source for recycled code and reduced development costs. You're never going to see an extraordinarily pretty, hardware-pushing game for the Wii simply because they don't need to be to sell to the 80 year olds their target market is now.

For good reason: They'd tank on any platform but Nintendo's. They'll sell decently well on Nintendo's. No Halo's or GTA's, mind you...
      We shall see, won't we.

I expect by this time next year (Or perhaps a little later, since I'm not sure when Metroid is scheduled), the 11 titles I listed will have outsold the 11 titles you did.

And I expect the Wii itself to have outsold the 360 by next summer so long as the console prices are consistent.

        Cumulative?

Oh, you're so on. Avatar bet...duration 2 years? The market will be North America as that's the numbers we've been discussing in this thread.

Why would the prices be consistent? The 360 has been out a year and a half and will be considerably cheaper to make starting next month with the 65nm processors...the core 360 will officially be cheaper than the Wii next month.

Not to mention other features that will push 360 adoption soon, like IPTV and ... Halo 3.

I hadn't heard that the core will be <250 soon, if so then the 360 will obviously be cruising.

And I don't think h3 will be a tremendous system mover-i think most of the people who want that stlye of game picked up the system for Gears.

As far as an avatar bet....since N will probably delay Galaxy and Prime til next summer at this rate, I'm going to have to decline.

Look at Xbox 1 sales when Halo 2 came out... Should be a hint.

            You know you'd lose.

BTW, the 360 Core is supposed to be $229 next month; Premium $299. Those are the rumours anyway, the launch of the 360 Elite will push the others down.

Way to cut out the part of the world where the Wii is dominating and the 360 is lucky if a couple of people buy it by accident.

                • It's the most irrelevant market. Xbox 1 flopped there, too.

If it's got Pokemon or schoolgirls, it's a 10 million+ seller in Japan.

                  • Wow... you really are just in your own little world, aren't you? The most irrelevant market? I can't even begin to go into how completely wrong that statement is, and I won't bother, because you are clearly too far gone to even bother discussing it with.

                      I missed this part.

You're the only one here talking NA only numbers. Except back a few pages ago when you mentioned worldwide 360 sales of 1.9 mil. I guess then it was relevant, eh?

It is the smallest market of the "big three", and each year it gets comparatively smaller. I'm not in my own little world, I'm in the real world.

Success in Japan doesn't make or break a console anymore, it's a tertiary gaming market.

North America is the largest, followed by Europe, followed by Japan.

                        Welcome to 2007, BTW.

I guess I must have imagined you posting those VGCharts figures and graphs then.

which is irrelevant, as neither 360 or Wii is likely to be "broken"

If the two systems are at all close in NA and Europe, with 360 in the lead, Japan could well be enough to put Wii in front in world wide sales.

                              2) It's the #1 franchise

And it's not a Gamecube port...the Wii is an overclocked Gamecube, there is nothing to port...
Read GameSpot's review, they say you can tell it is a gamecube port because the textures are not what they would have expected from a Wii game (it at least comes on a 4.2Gig DVD not the 640meg mini-discs so the textures should have been replaced with high-res ones).

The control scheme is nothing. They moved "pushing one of the buttons" to "swing the remote" and they let you aim with the remote as opposed to using the analog stick. Not much of a control scheme.

However, shame to hear about Tiger Woods '07. I played a little at the EBGames near here and it seemed alright, but it wasn't an in-depth evaluation of the game mechanics.

Hmm, X-Box for $299? I might have to save up for that. At a decent price I have no problem with buying an X-Box. It's no Wii, but it'll do I suppose.

                              • The problem with the GC/Wii's texture is texturing RAM, not the storage media...this was unchanged in the Wii. More system RAM was added for other kind of data (and can potentially be used to swap out textures in-game, I suppose), but it's not going to make that big of a difference considering the limited fill-rate on the graphics chip.
