  • Are sales slow? Wii already has I think 3 million sellers world wide-Zelda, Sports (meaning the japanese market), play.

And I don't know what you think about vgcharts.org, but according to this graph:

The first 4 months of the wii compare quite favorably in overall game sales to the 360. And that's just NA, not including Japan or Europe.

    • First 4 months software:hardware:

      Wii: 3.73 : 1
      360: 3.87 : 1

You're right, they're closer than I thought. Still, Zelda should put it above the 360, considering there were no genuine AAA games for the 360 til Gears of War...

      • True.

It will be interesting to see if a 3rd party game can crack the top 3 selling wii games. before Galaxy comes out or the top five by the time either Metroid or SSBB comes out (whichevers first).

On an additional note, I saw for the first time in the wild, not one but three ds lites, in white black and pink, at my local best buy. Was sorely tempted to get one or two (for my wife and me), but need to hold off until august (way too much going on right now for that)

This seems to happen quite a lot when people like LotM, Asleep or Zargon check the strong statement you make. Makes me wonder how many more of your strong 'factual' statements have been selectively misremembered for the purposes of your crusade against the poor ol' wii.

          • The point still stands that a console without a AAA title had more software sales than a console with perhaps the console's #1 franchise....the Wii's software sales will be lower throughout its lifecycle because of the nature of the target market.

Which is why I suppose Nintendo thought it makes sense to make a profit on the hardware itself.

movies target young cause the highest revenues, despite DVDs etc are still from in theater, and younger people go out more.

TV and related media targets young cause they are ad supported - and older folks are undesirable, not cause we dont buy stuff, but because we're generally more set in our brand loyalties.

You forget, Zelda: Twilight Princess is not a Wii game - it's a Gamecube port. The Zelda for the Wii hasn't come out yet.

Why should a gamecube port be the "killer app" for the Wii?

                            That's absurd.
Dude, I've seen my mom's 70+ year old boyfriend buy a $300 set of golf clubs on a whim! Every time the family gets together at a reasturant he pays. Believe me, a person that's retired, living alone, in a house that's already paid for, with kids grown and moved away has expendable income.

If you want to make money in games, it's young males in the 20-30 crowd with the expendable income.
I have friends in the 20-30 range that can't buy McDonalds much less a game system and games. Heck those of you aimed at the higher aspreations aren't even out of college untill 24 or worse. So unless Mommy and Daddy are supporting them they aren't getting a game system either.

Why do you think Wii software sales suck? Because the new markets Nintendo's trying to open up tend not to have much expendable income. There's a reason it's been largely ignored, much like how blockbusters movies are seldom made targeting the 80 year old crowd.
Wii sales don't suck (as you finally copped to when pushed) they are significantly higher when you take out all the false stuff you keep putting into them like Zelda was a AAA game for the Wii (it's not, it's a gamecube port, not an original Wii game).

I think the Wii is set to do fine as long as they can produce games that take advantage of it's style of gameplay and don't resort to using the gamepad (or derivations thereof, like Zelda does) to just make the same old games as everyone else. I think Tiger Woods '07 is a great start.

                              Because:
                              1) Control scheme
                              2) It's the #1 franchise

And it's not a Gamecube port...the Wii is an overclocked Gamecube, there is nothing to port...

24??? Just because you took a 6 year degree doesn't mean most people do.

Tiger Woods '07? Official Nintendo Magazine UK's summary of that game:
A massive disappointment. Play with the analogue stick and it's a great golf game, but try to use the Remote and you're in for a rough ride. [Apr 2007, p.83]

                                Game Informer:
Lagging well behind the series’ standards, the Wii remote has a hard time detecting your backswing. Thus, it’s harder to control. There were even times the game putted for me by accident.

                                Games Radar:
Perfecting a true-to-life golf swing resembles an experiment in OCD, akin to trying to tie your shoes while turning the stove off six times. But it's nothing short of a tragedy that it doesn't live up, both visually and in approach, to what came packed in with the Wii at no charge.

                                EGM:
As for Tiger's mechanics, arthritics beware. If my backswing was jittery, I swung before I intended to--which is frustrating, as the maddening result is a dink instead of a dive. [Apr 2007, p.83]
