    • Elo is dependent on long-term, ongoing competition to have real meaning/accuracy. That's why its primary uses are chess and Scrabble. The BCS knew that an Elo-only determination of the top 2 teams over a mere 12-game season was subject to far too many variables. That's why they used it as a source of input and not the ultimate decision factor.

Look, we all know you're butt-hurt over TCU not getting in, so it's no surprise that you are now championing the only evaluation method that would put TCU in the finals.

Please comfort yourself with the fact that your beloved Frogs would not have gotten in under the previous system either.

      • I'm OK with Anderson leaving the Badgers. On the surface, it seems kinda weird to leave Wisconsin for Oregon State, but then you have to think what kind of coach he is. He's a spread offense guy and the Badgers are noticably.. not. He's a better than average coach, just not the right fit. Good luck to him.

Who takes his place should be fun.

        • Most Badgers fans I'm seeing are OK with Anderson leaving because there were growing doubts about his coaching, particularly when it came to offense. I found the move to Oregon State pretty shocking myself. Why would anyone leave a storied Big 10 program with better facilities and institutional support for the second-tier program in a state that has been dominated by another consistent top-10 team? I can only speculate that maybe he was feeling the heat for the disappointing Badgers seasons and decided to get out while he still had some leverage with a lesser program. Yes, OS is going to invest $40+ million in facilities improvements... but so what? They will still be overwhelmed by Oregon's money and ability to snag the elite recruits in the region. This is not an upward move for Anderson.

But, he probably was the best guy the Beavers could hope to get.

I've been championing the ELO computer rankings from the start of the season. Why? Because I would rather have a ranking based on objective criteria.

It makes sense if he was asked to throw a game for the sake of tOSU.

Looks like where there's smoke there's fire.

Who wants to be part of that?

I call BS. 5 days ago, you posted your own end of season list, which was NOT the same as the computer rankings:

In past years, you've been a proponent of undefeated teams like NIU, Boise State, et al. getting into the BCS series. In fact, it happened this very season with your ranking of Marshall (and, obviously, FSU) -- despite the fact that no Sagarin/Elo/computer rankings agreed with you.

That's an odd form of "championing" in my book.

You're suggesting that I'm crazy enough to argue that my own rankings are more objective than ELO? I do not and have never claimed to be impartial.

In past years, you've been a proponent of undefeated teams like NIU, Boise State, et al. getting into the BCS series. I still am. However, I still have TCU at 2, and Bama at four. My final four has TCU + Baylor + Bama + FSU, and differs from the computers in excluding Ole Miss + Oregon, and differs from the CFP in excluding Oregon + Ohio State.

Are you suggesting that this is an unreasonable final four? If FSU is good enough to be included, so is Baylor. I would have a FSU/Bama matchup and a TCU/Baylor matchup.

That's an odd form of "championing" in my book.
Seeing as TCU was screwed when they weren't in a power conference and screwed when they were, I would argue that my rankings are perfectly fair. I do, however think ELO is superior.

Baylor has a better O than Oregon. TCU has a better D and a better O too.

Oregon's a great team, but they are Baylor lite. I'm pretty confident that TCU and Baylor will win.

If I put money it would be on the Tide.

Put them on a neutral field and Kornegay says TCU would be favored by a touchdown against the Buckeyes. Baylor would be about a 6-point pick if the Bears were playing Ohio State.
Bama is 9.5 point favourites against Ohio state, and Oregon is 9 point favorites against FSU.

So, given that TCU is 7 over, that would put them at 2, 2.5 points behind the Tide.

So hey, don't listen to me. Listen to the Bookies. Bookies have TCU as number 3 in the nation.
