No, he should have never even be considered for the HoF because of the cardinal sin: not winning the duperbowl!

I know Pete Rose never won the Super Bowl but that's because he played baseball... and he won the World Series. He won when he played with the Phillies. I'm lost. Is there another Pete Rose? Did you get your sports mixed up? Are you drunk as usual?

Sloww is acting like Superbowl wins are the golden ticket to HoF land and obviously using that method of deduction we can conclude Marino should never get in unless he somehow wins the Superbowl of Weight Loss using Nutrisystem.

Too late. Mike Golic already beat him to it! Mike Golic also passed the Albert Haynesworth conditioning test

          • I think Favre is more like Young than McNabb.

I'm not saying TD should necessarily be discounted for playing with the Broncos. I'm saying that is why people forget to mention him. People just got used to Broncos RBs being good, year in and year out. TD was at his prime when I was in college, and I remember him being talked about at the time as great - but for some reason not as a HOFer. Just as 'great'. When he went down and Gary came in and, as a rookie, rushed for 4.2 YPC and almost 1200 yards, nobody was particularly surprised. Then Mike Anderson came in 2000 and rushed for an even 5 YPC, nearly 1500 yards in his rookie year. Year in and year out Broncos RBs were just sick... and so people end up discounting any given one of them.

How many Broncos RBs were highly successful after their DEN years? Portis rushed for 5.5 YPC both years with DEN, and then was never above 4.3 YPC with Washington. Portis hasn't been a bad back for WAS, but nowhere near the stud he was in two years with DEN. Mike Anderson hasn't done a thing outside of DEN. I doubt any of you even know who Olandis Gary is. Reuben Droughns. Tatum Bell. Et cetera. Player after player putting up 4-5 YPC after being a total nobody.

How many Black QBs are in the HOF? Is there another besides Warren Moon?
So it's me that's racist? The HOF is racist? Do you think maybe it could be a fact, rather than racism?
Tebow is definitely in that mold, but he's not indicative of my point. Tebow should be Black.
Yes, it's you that's being racist. The HoF doesn't have the first thing to do with it. You're the one being racist because you made your argument using the formula "Smith is black. Blacks do X. Therefore, Smith does X." Regardless of whether "blacks do X" is factual, that argument is racist. Using group membership to "determine" individual traits is pretty much the basis of racism.

                  Because he was a punter.

                  • Yes, can we go back to my Aikman/Simms comparison? Can someone tell me why such an extreme difference with Aikman being a shoe-in, first ballot HoFer and Simms, hands down, will never be a HoFer, when all indications are that they should be about equal but Aikman get the nod for the extra SB's?

Aside from not winning as many Super Bowls, Simms did more than Aikman and with considerably less. Put Irvin and Smith on the Giants and give Aikman Mark Ingram and Ottis Anderson. The Giants probably would have dominated the NFL and Aikman would have done nothing.

                      • most coaches see a Black QB and instantly think, I can make him scramble and give defenses another weapon to worry about! Let's have him do running drills instead of studying plays.
Personally my ideal QB is a scrambler, Doug Flutie. However the difference between him and most 'scrambling' QBs is that he was one of the best at throwing the ball downfield.

McNabb, a very good QB, no doubt. However, unlike Marino he doesn't have the longevity. Not having a ring really hurts rate stat arguments for QBs. If he really was so exceptional in the period when he played, why didn't he win a ring? I think he needs 40k yards to be in.

Quite simply, Aikman is a borderline hall of famer. Moon had 40k yards and every QB with the exception of Testaverde and Bledsoe are in. Bledsoe I think has a case and will eventually make it. He's basically a better Bradshaw without a ring.

Right now I think Brees and Brady have better HOF creds than McNabb. However, McNabb is only 32. 3 more solid seasons and he'll be in ring or no.

                          • Of course Brady is in. And Brees has a good chance as well. McNabb might end up in the Drew Bledsoe, Rich Gannon, Randall Cunningham, Mark Brunell, etc. category of QB's who were 'Hall of Very Good'. Bledsoe's not making it into the Hall of Fame.

However, McNabb is better than John Elway was at this point in their careers. Maybe Shanahan might do for McNabb what he did for Elway. The Redskins offensive line is what is scary with regards to McNabb and his injury history. They need to get better at their line ASAP.

Doug Flutie as your ideal QB? You're joking, right? Why? Because he played for your precious Chargers a few years? Doug Flutie couldn't keep a starting job on any of the many NFL teams he played for.

                            DOUG FLUTIE!!!!

                            • Doug Flutie is undoubtedly the single most overrated QB in NFL history. Didn't start consistently at any point in his career yet is beloved by many for a few moments in his career...

... most of which happened in college.

                              • I wasn't aware anyone besides Ben even fathomed the thought of him being a great QB... so I couldn't imagine Flutie being overrated. Did he ever start a full season for any team in the NFL in his 20 year career?

Looked it up... No. He didn't. He started 15 games in 1999 for the Bills but was benched in favor of Rob Johnson at the end of the season and for the playoffs... You got to really lose the faith of your coach to get benched heading into the playoffs.

His coach was Wade Phillips though so, well, Wade Phillips.
