Yes but it's consensus that LT is NOT in the top 5

      • He lead either in total yards or rushing yards, 3 times, Albert. He was second another 3 times.

Tiki leads twice, both in total yards. Nobody else, in that entire 5 year span leads either category more than once.

He was indisputably the best back in 2006, and in 2007, and arguably in 2003 over Jamal.

The key for LT is while people come and go, LT was always up there.

This is why year to year lists overrate flashes in the pan, and underrate steady performance.

The number 2 back to LT in his prime, over his whole career, has been Edgerrin James, who never lead in any category, and showed up once in total yards.

Edge was a system back pure and simple.

And the reason why no one in that group is steady is for the reason I've repeatedly said... LT emerged in the twilight of the careers of guys like Curtis Martin, Marshall Faulk, and Corey Dillon and at the dawn of guys like Steven Jackson and Adrian Peterson. Priest Holmes was nearly paralyzed and that shortened his career. Then the top guys LT's age (Ricky Williams and Jamal Lewis had off-field issues that derailed their careers).

LT just happened to show up in a time in between the best talents. Alexander, Tiki, Edge, and Warrick Dunn were the other backs of his heydey and while they were all good, LT wouldn't have been leading so many categories had Priest not had a spinal injury, had Ricky and Lewis not had their issues, etc.

            • You can't cite "the system" for a player's success. Although they were part of the system, their success is what it is. You could say the same things about a lot of HOF'ers. Montana and Young, certainly. Emmitt, because of a big OL, certainly. Just as certainly, most ARE part of a successful system. That's why I give a lot of respect to Sanders and Campbell. They carried the team on their back.

                  • A lot of talk that Leinart will be released or traded. Looks more and more like Arizona is screwed up for the season and is turning to Derek Anderson.

"I've done everything to this point that they've asked me to and more. I've worked hard and been a leader. ... I've been accurate. I haven't turned the ball over. I don't know how we judge performance when you have 13 pass attempts to the other guy's 40." -Matt Leinart
That whole Trojan class with Leinart, Bush, and LenDale White sure has been disappointing.

Brees, Brandon Marshall, MJD, Frank Gore, and then half my poly team in the RB and WR corps.

LT was a great player, but even top 20 would probably be stretching it. He was largely on a very good team that was perfect for his skillset, which is the dream of any RB
In that sense, I'll take Bo Jackson. At the very least, he was the greatest part-time RB the NFL has ever seen.

Yeah if we're caring nothing about longevity, why even mention Bo? Terrell Davis was shockingly good for about 3 years then fell off a cliff...

Davis is tied with AP for #3 in all-time career rushing yards per game at 97.5 yards per game, behind only Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. From 96-98, Terrell Davis looked like he was going to be the greatest RB of all time, hands down. I think we all forget just how dominant he was. His rookie year was quite solid but not spectacular then...

                              1996:
                              Rushing: 1528 yards 13 TDs (4.5ypc)
                              Receiving: 36 for 310, 2 TDs

                              1997:
                              Rushing: 1750 yards 15 TD's (4.7ypc)
                              Receiving: 42 for 287

                              1998:
                              Rushing: 2008 yards 21 TD's (5.1ypc)
                              Receiving: 25 for 217 2 TD's

After that, he had two straight seasons where he only played 4 games then had a mini-resurgence his last year and that was it. Not bad for a 6th round pick.

                              • TD is hampered by the fact that he's a system RB every bit as much as Kurt Warner was a system QB. He was very good, certainly, but you could put me at RB for the Broncos in the late 90s-early 00s and get 1500 yards at 4.5 YPC. Well, until I broke all the bones in my body after the second hit anyway. That O-line was just ridiculous, and zone blocking was too hard for DEFs to counter.
