Meh, I can't really fault Sundin. He wanted a no trade clause, and has been crystal clear from the beginning that he doesn't want to go anywhere. He is the heart and soul of the team, and one of the very few Leafs that shows up for every game. It's really a better example of the continued uselessness of the Leafs' management. They shouldn't have given everyone under the sun a no-trade clause, and if they really thought that trading Sundin was critical, perhaps they should have not waited until a couple of days before the deadline to try to push him hard to waive it.

Sutter says, again, he will not trade Tanguay.
The whole Tanguay/Ryder stuff made no sense to begin with. The Flames had a Ryder who shafted the team when he up and quit hockey this year. Montreal's Ryder doesn't seem that much more mentallly strong. It'd be a terrible fit for Calgary."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

You should know I let you have Forsberg, nye.
Decided against it at the last minute since:
1) We don't know when he'll start
2) We don't know how healthy he is
3) I couldn't stomach dropping any of my current C's for the gamble
Good luck."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Sutter could trade tanguay but frankly Tanguay has been reasonably good for the Flames all year. He would have a bunch more points if Conroy or Nolan could hit the net earlier this year and he has done an excellent job on the penalty kill.Originally posted by Asher

In the last month, some of Iggy's best shifts have been when he was matched with Tanguay
Tanguay will never be as hard-nosed as I like but he does a job.
On the flip side is Huselius-- I would not mind seeing him gone. I was critical of him when he had the hot streak and his play of late is more what I expect from him. He is goal scorer enough that perhaps they could package him for something-- IIRC though the downside is that he will be a UFA so what exactly do you get for a rental of a goal scorer that isn't scoringYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

We'll get to that when there's no games left. Canucks got lucky that so many of there games vs Calgary were early in the season when the Flames were terrible.
The Canucks have dominated the Flames so far as NYE said, 8-3 in total points.
So you have to win 3 straight games against Vancouver to turn the tiebreaker around. Those wins all have to be in regulation too.
Anyways, I'm still glad Calgary won, they can keep the seat warm for us.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

He's got a no-trade clause and a year left on his contract and he has said he doesn't want to go anywhere. This deal was a non-starter from the beginning, I'll never understand the press behind it.Originally posted by Flubber

I don't understand it either. Ryder is a one dimensional player who's a UFA at the end of the year. Sutter would have to be suddenly retarded to trade for him, no matter who he's sending back.Originally posted by Asher

Don Waddel though? He's kinda stupid, so here's hoping for Hossa

Sutter was on today basically indicating that while he didn't rule anything out, he did not see making any big deals.Originally posted by Asher

He was also specifically asked about trading Tanguay and his response was something along the line that the media had him traded 2 months ago.You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

The "experts " on radio today all seemed to think that Montreal was the most likely of the Canadian teams to pull a big deal. They felt that the combination of heightened expectations and a surplus of good young talent made them likely to pick up some immediate helpYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

I think its more that Ryder has had a poor season after two 30 goal seasons-- someone might think he will score at that pace again and 30 goal scorers are not exactly commonplace--He actually might be easier to trade if he were NOT a UFAOriginally posted by Ninot
Yeah, i've been following the experts too. I think we have a very strong minor system to trade with, but I don't see why Ryder would be appealing. You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Sutter was quoted as saying he didn't see any holes in his team that needed to be addressed. While I can agree that there is no gaping hole, the team could use some more size up front and I don't care what anyone says, Daymond Langkow and Craig Conroy are not exactly a scary 1-2 punch at centre. I actually think Langkow would be quality second line centre but as a first liner he is marginal at best. Conroy? JUst not a top-2 line centre IMHO. I have actually wanted/hoped for Lombardi to step things up and be better than a 3rd liner but it just doesn't seem to happen.
Only problem? I don't know that their is a star centre available out there now that Sundin is not moving
So "no holes?"-- I don't completely buy it-- INstead I think its a case where there is "no one that I can get that would be a noticeable upgrade without giving up way too much"You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

It may be a slow year for trades. IN the east
Tampa -should be a seller
Toronto- can't be a big seller due to no trade clauses
Florida/Atlanta/Washington-- all probably have hopes of catching Carolina
NY/Buffalo-- still so close that they have a good playoff chance
IN the west
LA-- could be a seller but again it seems the vets have no trade clauses and they won't want to part with their youth
Edmonton-- again most of the better players are younger--
Then a bunch of teams that are still holding out playoff hopes-- Colorado with the Forsberg move showed they are making a push for this year-- Phoenix as well could be a buyer-- They have steadily improved this year and a playoff spot is pretty close for them. Then Columbus/St. Louis/ Chicago are all teams that can still see themselves as being in the mix to varying degrees
All in all there seems to be few outright "sellers" and those that would be are tied up with no trade clauses. Combine that with salary cap issues and ity could be a very quiet non-event todayYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Sutter's quote on Tanguay:
"You guys have made that soup for two months, haven't you?" the Flames general manager snorted at the assembled media. "I am not trading Alex Tanguay. Alex Tanguay is one of the top left-wingers in the National Hockey League. And he'll be a pretty good player for us down the stretch.""The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Montreal has "bunkered" their team today apparently. With Hossa in town with Atlanta today and the swirl of media they are not practicing, not skating and making no one available to the media. IT would be real interesting if Hossa was trade to Montreal today-- he just needs to take his gear from one dressing room to the otherYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo
