The Yemeni mother of a dying boy in California is being prevented from seeing him due to a US ban on visitors from her country, the family says.

Two-year-old Abdullah Hassan was born with a brain disease that doctors say he will not survive.

His relatives say his mother wants to see him one last time before they take him off life-support.

His father says the boy's mother cannot come to the US due to the Trump administration's travel ban.

Abdullah and his father are American, says the family.

"All she wishes is to hold his hand for the last time," the boy's father, Ali Hassan, 22, told the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday.

He said the boy would probably die if he is taken to Egypt, where his mother is currently living.

Mr Hassan's wife, Shaima Swileh, is currently seeking a waiver from the US Department of State to travel to the US urgently.

Saad Sweilem, from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which is advocating for the family to be reunited, said barring Abdullah's mother was "unfathomably cruel."

Abdullah's father was born in California, but has maintained close ties with his family's native Yemen.

Mr Hassan met his wife in the Arab nation, and the couple had seven children there.

Abdullah was diagnosed with hypomyelination, a brain disease that has affected his ability to breathe.

When he was eight months old, the family moved from Yemen to Cairo to escape that country's civil war.

About three months ago, Mr Hassan brought his son to the US for treatment, with the expectation that his wife would later join them.

But after doctors in Oakland, California, informed him that the boy's condition was terminal, the family applied for her to travel to the US.

They say they received a rejection letter from the state department, citing the US president's travel ban.

A state department official who did not wish to be named refused to discuss the specific case due to confidentiality laws.

But the official told the BBC they make "every effort to facilitate legitimate travel by international visitors".

"We are also fully committed to administering US immigration law and ensuring the integrity and security of our country's borders."
Toddler Abdullah's relatives say his mother wants to see him before they take him off life-support.

      • Why not? What point is there to conclusions other than to jump to? Conclusions that aren't jumped to are unfulfilled, they get all sad and depressed that no-one is jumping to them.

When I was younger I thought the same. Now that I am an old, decrepit, withered, senile, smelly old guy I prefer my conclusions to be eased into rather than jumped on. Like a fine wine to be sipped until the glass is empty rather than slamming shots. Like silk sheets easing you to sleep instead of popping pills. Like a calm lake, a single small ripple from a passing dragonfly... rather than chucking in a boulder and causing a splash.

He certainly thinks some countries are "****holes" though I haven't heard him say those people are not human. Do you have a quote?

Trump has such a vast number of objectionable traits and opinions it should be pretty easy to confine ourselves to things he has actually said or done without making up factually challenged new claims. There is so much easy material to work with why not grab the low hanging fruit first?

True, President Pussygrabber is a drugged up criminal, a rapist, and not a good person, but he could still be trying to compliment them. He is part of the 1%, the stupidest 1%, and so are you if you don't see him as a criminal assh0le.

              • A poacher has been ordered to watch the Disney classic Bambi as part of his sentence for illegally killing hundreds of deer.

David Berry was ordered by a court in Missouri to watch the film at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence in what conservation agents have called one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history.

“The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste,” said Don Trotter, the prosecuting attorney in Lawrence county in the state’s south-west.
                Oh deer!

David Berry must view the Disney classic as part of his punishment for illegally killing hundreds of animals in Missouri

                • Is this to try to promote a deer related sentiment inside him, or to torture him with images of deer that can’t be killed for trophies?

                  • OK, we are looking at AT LEAST a 500 point drop in the DOW today. AT LEAST a 500 point drop. That is the minimum standard of acceptance now.

Anything less is unacceptable. Anything more... is a blessing.

Donald Trump's troubled charity foundation dissolved after allegations it was used for private and political gain

The move was announced by the attorney general of New York State, Barbara Underwood, who will supervise the distribution of its remaining monies.

She has accused Mr Trump and his three eldest children of using it for private and political gain.

The case against them would continue, she said.

This is just one of several legal cases swirling around Mr Trump.

Mrs Underwood said in a statement that there had been "a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation - including unlawful co-ordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and wilful self-dealing, and much more".

She continued: "This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a chequebook to serve Mr Trump's business and political interests."

Under the terms of the deal to shut down the foundation, Ms Underwood said, it could only be dissolved under judicial supervision and could only distribute its assets "to reputable organisations approved by my office"

She added: "This is an important victory for the rule of law, making clear that there is one set of rules for everyone.

"We'll continue to move our suit forward to ensure that the Trump Foundation and its directors are held to account for their clear and repeated violations of state and federal law."

Mr Trump and his eldest children have yet to comment.

However, last June he indicated on Twitter that he was not going to settle the case, insisting the foundation had done nothing wrong.

The family-run charity agrees to close amid allegations that its funds were illegally misused.

US President Donald Trump is backing down on his threat to shut down the government after Democrats refused to grant him the funding to build the wall he wants on the border with Mexico.

The White House has identified other funding sources for the project, says spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

Mr Trump is seeking $5bn (£3.9bn) from Congress to start work on the wall.

Several federal agencies will shut down on Friday if Congress and the president fail to reach agreement on funding.

Mrs Sanders told Fox News on Tuesday: "We have other ways that we can get to that $5bn.

"At the end of the day we don't want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border."

She added: "There are certainly a number of different funding sources that we've identified that we can use, that we can couple with money that would be given through congressional appropriations that would help us get to that $5bn that the president needs in order to protect our border."

It was not immediately clear what those alternative sources of funding were.
The White House says it has found other sources of funding, a claim dismissed by Democrats.
