I'm not an American. I don't see why all of you are arguing that just because someone likes certain things in the Victorian era, that means that they must support slavery. That wasn't even true in the Victorian period, let alone now. And especially not in England or Canada.
The Victorian era was one of colonialism, slavery, mass murder (King Leopold anyone?) and all other sorts of atrocities. As well as the US Civil war. Yet you romanticize this era? This is serious bull****.

    • You want the good ole days back where people like me were treated like mentally diseased criminals. Don't even try to weasel your way out of this.
Well, then. Provide a quote where I've ever said that I wanted to own a 'plantation'.

You said you wanted to own property (slaves).

Funny how you didn't address the point about the way I would have been treated in that time.

I don't see colonialism as a negative and hearing that from a Spanish speaking person living in Los Angeles seems to me a rather self-serving condemnation. Would you rather be living in Alta California? Or with the Comanches?

Of course you don't see mass extermination as negative. You really are an idiot. Keep digging that hole, Ben!

Colonialism, with its separation of Africa between the colonial powers (who drews borders not along the african cultures, but with a drawer according to the negotiations between themselves) is the root of most conflicts we have in Africa nowadays

Actually most conflicts in Africa right now are between Islamists (particularly Boko Haram), and Christians.

                        Blah blah blah.

No its not. Most conflicts have been with Hutus and Tutsis (especially in central Africa). And by many arbitrary borders drawn up by France and England.

You're a first generation immigrant to the new world and you're condemning colonialism? Talk about hypocritical. My family (or parts), have been here 250 years.

That would suggest a tribal component, nothing to do with France and England, and two I challenge the contention that the majority of African wars have been between hutus and tutsis.

Actually it has everything to do with colonialism, because the colonial powers drew the borders that forced Hutus and Tutsis into the same state.
The post colonial states never changed the borders that were drawn by the colonial powers and, up to this date, still keep the borders that, more than a century above, were drawn by the europeans

With a more natural growth of countries, without the influence of the europeans, we most likely would have gotten separate national states for Hutus and Tutsis
