        • If Russia really wants to become food self sufficient or even better yet an efficient exporter (which would lead to sustained growth especially in rural areas) then they really need to start making long term investments in things like irrigation systems, more privitized farms, better infrastructure, refrigeration systems for transport, better storage and processing systems. It is nice that Putin is offering token subsidies but that doesn't solve the big infrastructure problems. Breaking up the oligarchs holdings to insure market competition and encouraging foreign investment including by have a true independent nonpoliticised judiciary would go a long way. Basically the exact opposite of what Putin has done for the last 15 years.

I hate it when I see countries like Russia or Brazil which have so much potential but which are always held back by corrupt elites, lack of true judicial independence, and general ignorance among the populous about what makes good policies to promote economic growth. The only thing holding Russia back from being a solid middle income country is bad governance. Even a dictatorship like Belarus does better wrt median income.

          • I mean look at that. In 2014 California was the seventh large economy on the planet and in 2015 we will probably be the sixth. Russia has four times the population, is reasonably developed, and is way larger with way more natural resources yet you are behind India, Brazil, Italy, and California. You guys aren't living up to your potential and the reason is bad policies and bad governance. You guys could be doing so much better yet you are looking at a 5% reduction in GDP for no good reason other than Putin's ego.

Are folks really happy on their $450 per month (half of which goes to food)? Doesn't Putin stealing a personal fortune of $200 billion make you angry? Not to mention all the money syphoned off by other politicians, higher prices so oligarchs can have monopolies, and the billions wasted on foreign wars for no good reason?

You guys should stop worrying about trying to build an empire and more worried about getting things sorted out at home so average Russians live better.

              • The Russian government's approval of legislation to keep officials' property out of the public eye risks fuelling corruption, a watchdog warns.

Yet rather than trying to decrease corruption Putin is actually trying to make it easier to hide his corruption. This is money being stolen from average Russians which could have been used for better healthcare, better infrastructure, better educational opportunities, but instead it disappears into foreign accounts and over seas mansions for Putin and his cronies.

I have loved Abkhazian wines when I was there many years ago. So, yeah, you consider it is a part of Georgia, but de facto - it is an independent state with a great wine distillery traditions.

I've seen how hard people there fought for their independence. It's a really beautiful place.

Hello? Russia is World's third largest grain exporter.

Are you really that dumb, if you seriously believe the sh!t you just have said?

No one here would buy your sh!t, dude. We KNOW how "effective" your western managers are. You can say sweet words, but in your heart all you want is us dead and robbed.
So, go f*ck yourself. No one is buying your sh!t here any longer.
