    • It is a shame Russia's planes keep crashing. They have had five crashes in just a few months. It appears old planes, poor maintenance, and Putin's new aggressive stance just doesn't work out very well for the Russian air force.

maybe if they trained pilots better?

since ww2, all russian pilots have done is die in korea and vietnam

oh, and occasionally they will fly towards the US, hoping to defect, but then they get a radio message saying their daughters/mothers/sisters/wives will be raped by Russian soldiers, so they turn around and go back to their miserable lives

            • An investigation remains stymied one year after a plane with almost 300 people on board was shot down

Even the paid FSB "rebel" leader who was in charge of the forces in the area where the civilian plane was shot down has now admitted that the recorded telephone call where one of his men said he had shot down a civilian plane is genuine. When the guy in charge admits his men shot down the plane then it is a closed case.

                • By the way, why the West always bashes our good rulers? Say, Ivan 4 "Грозный" is translated as "Terrible". Why the hell "terrible"? "Ужасный" means terrible. "Грозный" means "formidable" (as in "formidable foe"), maybe with a little bit of "fearsome", but that's it. It's in no way "terrible".

Sure, he killed some too much people, but only when compared to other Russian rulers of it's time - he was very tame by european standards of his age (or european standards of a much later ages). At the same time he increased a territory or his to-be-Kingdom something like 30-fold? There aren't that many rulers in the World history who can claim to have comparable efficiency.

So, it makes sense to call a ruler that increased a territory 30-fold as "Formidable (against his enemies)". Also note that it's a people's nickname. It doesn't make any sense to give him nickname "terrible".

                  • The English word terrible is usually used to translate the Russian word grozny in Ivan's nickname, but the modern English usage of terrible, with a pejorative connotation of bad or evil, does not precisely represent the intended meaning. The meaning of grozny is closer to the original usage of terrible—inspiring fear or terror, dangerous (as in Old English in one's danger), formidable or threatening, tough, strict, authoritative. V. Dal defines grozny specifically in archaic usage and as an epithet for tsars: "courageous, magnificent, magisterial and keeping enemies in fear, but people in obedience".[6] Other translations were also suggested by modern scholars.[7][8][9]

Not really true. But the large numbers of young boy toys is impressive on its own.

                              • I hear new expanded sanctions against all Russian businesses, not just targeted sanctions aimed at Putin cronies, are now in the works due to Putin's noncompliance with the Minsk agreement.
