Lancer, I'm not going to convert to Christianity (or any religion). I'm not going to argue about this with you, but I ask that you please not bring it up again.

I was trying to effect a change. I've been working against my complacency the last 2 years by returning to school and studying, and in general I've been doing okay (not happy, but okay) for the last 5 years or so. I've also been going to therapy for the last year and have put a lot of work into changing bad habits. But then I got tired. I am just ****ing tired of having to work so hard every single day just to be functional.

The depression makes you tired- it's a rope of sand though.

You do need to change physically too- not just cognitively. In terms of combatting my depression, the best thing I ever did was join a gym. Weekly regular exercise will make changes- you just need to convnce yourself to get up and start exercising.

Pills/meds? If you can find one that works, great. But it's mostly "pin the neurotransmitter on the donkey". And anything that suppresses inhibition could lead to more "impulsive" results.

Every morning I go down to the cafeteria and make a terrible financial and health decision by buying two donuts and a thing of orange juice for breakfast. Today, they were out of the orange juice I normally buy, so I wandered around in a confused state for several minutes. Later, I returned to the juice counter where a cafeteria worker was restocking. I asked him if I could have an orange juice (which he hadn't gotten around to unloading yet), and he gave me one. I didn't realize until about a minute later how momentous this simple exchange was. Normally, terrified of unplanned social encounters, I would have avoided the cafeteria worker at all cost or maybe chosen a different brand of juice that I did not enjoy so as not to bother him. But today, with no coercion necessary, I decided what I wanted and I took asked politely for it. This is a major accomplishment for me. I'm so proud of myself. Oh god I hate my life.
