To be exact, the department is excellent (the last one was as well). In fact it was the first one that has done several successful operation as first one.

Also, there is no good rate for curing brain cancer or prolonging survival. It is what it is basically. It doesn't matter where you're at, it will be harsh.

I do question the opportunity to seek trials and go wild with opporunities though. They are not very.... excited about them. Then, the other issues is that I have great insurance (I work for bank/insurance company, you could not even buy a better one in here)... and yet it still amounts to same. It seems that people are alone when they're hit with this. They just have to... work it out.

So I'll have to keep on looking and seeing for interesting trials and seeing how to get myself enrolled.

            thanks for your messages people!

I had a friend from university call me today... he didn't know what to say, but... that was exactly the right thing. So here's something if you don't know and someone is in a similar situation - to make yourself available is the perfect thing for most.

This is the perfect opportunity to have my friends and relatives more together and put their differences aside. I will fully exploit this opportunity.

And next summer, I will run half marathon.

Uncle Sparky, wow, that sucks! I mean doctors not even telling you!!

I was angry when they didn't tell me about the steady growth my tumor was making. I was reallllly angry. I decided to build a house myself (and take a loan) because I thought the tumor had not shown any signs for 3 years. And it was growing all the time, they just decided the best thing to do is to not say anything. Man I was angry.

So now, if my time is up, my wife and kids are stuck with a brand new house they can never pay back, so they have to sell it. I worked for a whole year to build it. I would have been able to pay it back in full in 8-9 years. Not too bad, I figured. I thought odds are, this will happen so yes let's do it, it will be my heritage. I'm still a bit angry about that. I don't think they should have the right to withhold such information because it has real life consequences and someone has to pay for it (my family in this case).

I guess I'll rob a bank and teach my wife to conceal finances. It's not like they'd put my to prison. Temporary insanity, plus policy of serious cancer, let's let the person out.

And still I'm the lucky one... Think about all the people born in countries where they have no access to anything... and if they do, it's definitely not as good as this. Oh man, that would suck. They'd find out about it when a person gets paralysed. And even then they might suspect a tumor but no chance for MRI so... what should we do, ehm.

I guess I have a real problem in a first world environment. It could be worse (and please world, don't make that comment to be some cruel reason for extending the joke).

Is this a thing with public medicine? I've read this happens in Japan, too. Over here that's malpractice territory.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I can't imagine my doctor not telling me about something like that. That's all kinds of ****ed up.

In my case, there was less than a day between diagnosis and surgery, so I certainly have no ill feelings - I suspect that since I was having a heart attack when diagnosed, they didn't want to add to my stress by telling me surgery might not work. I'm alive, and if I hadn't had the operation, I'd probably be dead... but still posting here. Americans are too litigious.
Canada and Finland are virtually tied in their WHO rating, so if the St. Boniface Hospital team in Winnipeg could successfully rewire me, your team can fix you. I do realize that heart surgery and brain surgery are different, and if things go dreadfully wrong you could end up like BK, but at least that's still some kind of life, right?
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

I suspect given my father that this strays into 'dude, not funny' territory.
