That's the trick. America isn't going to wind back the clock to the 19th Century. The anti-federalists and confederates lost their battles... politically and militarily. Right-wing hysteria makes transitioning to direct single payer system very difficult... thus the need for the ACA. People won't tolerate leaving health care to the free market. The results are catastrophic and inhumane. Sure, conservative mopes like you have no problem watching people die in the streets. But most Americans aren't sociopathic assholes... or rich kid libertarian twerps.

You guys put up a good fight... but it's ultimately a losing battle. And in 20 years, 50 years, 100 years... your morally bankrupt ideology will be remembered to have been just as evil as slavery.

The best part for me is that I get to watch the political death of conservatism happen!
To us, it is the BEAST.

    • At auto plants, the tension is typically between the workers and the management. But not at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, where it's Republican officials who are trying to stand in the way. One of them is the Tennessee governor, who says a unionized plant might discourage other companies from coming to his state.

      • The amusing thing here is that Right to Work states prohibit both closed shops and requiring Agency Fees from employees that don't want to join. So were I an employee at the plant, I wouldn't care either way wrt a union being created there.

          • Kind of irrelevant since I never claimed to be in favor of taxpayer funding for elective abortions.
Gribbler, yet you support Obamacare which provides public funding for elective abortions.

            • The real question is why won't Republicans let VW do what it wants with its own factory without having to create a union? VW wants workers to have a say about how the plant is run but TN Republicans won't let them.

It doesn't and even if it did I can accept an imperfect piece of legislation if it's better than doing nothing.

They hate the UAW and don't want to increase its power. That being said if the workers at a plant want to unionize there isn't much TN Republicans can really do about it.

So you ARE in favor of taxpayer funded abortion, if you're sufficiently bribed with other goodies.

Agreed. State law already takes care of the most onerous aspects that could have been introduced by already barring closed shops and the like or requiring agency fees from non-members.

Sure. Do you insist on agreeing with a politician 100% before you'll vote for them?

The main reason is unions don't donate to them (as they're always anti-union) and they don't want to see unions forming in areas where they might politically oppose Republican candidates. That's fine IF they're honest and admit that truth but instead they lie and claim it is about choice and helping companies even though the company itself wants to have worker representatives helping to manage the factory. Republicans in the state block that and force them to create a union but then run campaigns to block it so how about they stop lying and pretending it is about choice when it is 100% about blocking their political opposition? It's just a continuous load of lies out of the Republicans.

They're not even talking about a closed shop or agency fees so you either don't understand the situation or you're deliberately misrepresenting it.

I don't recall saying they were. L2Read, dumb ass. I said that the RTR law in the state already takes care of the most onerous aspects the State officials might have been afraid of and asked what the big deal was from their POV.

Good news for both the workers and VW as VW has said this is the outcome they wanted. They have said this is what fits with their corporate management style and it sounds like sour grapes that state level Republicans don't like the company's position.
