I'll hand you that modern muzzleloaders are actually pretty excellent. They also mostly have breeches, ironically.

Oh and I should add they're not only ****ing lethal but also totally unrestricted. Somehow criminals don't use the muzzleloading revolvers that you can pick up without a background check for the price of an inexpensive used handgun.

Why else would most states have archery and muzzleloader seasons?

Archers by and large are experienced hunters who know only to take a clean kill shot and moreover are not the majority of hunting kills. If less lethal ammo were to be employed for normal rifle deer hunting the effects would be, a)responsible hunters would not take the shot, or b) irresponsible hunters would take the shot.

In situation a), less animals(deer) get culled thus resulting in overpopulation and starvation. In situation b), more animals(deer) are maimed and die off slowly.

Yay for the humane kills in either situation.

Oh yeah I know the actual reason behind archery season. There's also the massively increased safety of archery hunting to consider. To my knowledge nobody has ever been killed by a stray arrow or crossbow bolt from bow hunting. It's handy in places that have too many people around to safely hunt with rifles and shotguns.

Not sure if this is an actual policy goal but muzzleloading season allows convicted felons to go hunting if they want to, because they're allowed to own black powder guns.

How is the argument: "If 30 million bullets on the ground are killing 20 million birds, therefore ammunition is more effective at killing birds when left on the ground than fired from a gun", equivalent to saying, "science is dumb"?

We're generally safe as long as they're too small to take us down solo, since they're too antisocial to gang up on us. Now, if a dwarf is living with a very large cat, and he gets injured or weakened in some fashion--if he goes on chemo or has his leg in a cast, for example--I would not put it past kitty to sense weakness and strike.
