Just as long as the Catholics are the ones in power, of course.

      • How come the Protestant parts of Europe and the Americas industrialized sooner, and had higher literacy rates and an easier transition to democracy than the Catholic parts? Does ignorance and poverty promote Catholicism or does Catholicism lead to ignorance and poverty?

A better question - why did England industrialize first? Was it because they executed all the priests that they suddenly became enlightened?

Uhmn, isn't that the usual thing to do when a previous reign of terror are overtrown ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

And there we have it - executions are the path of enlightenment.

Ehrm, no. It's delivering justice to people that have done evil things.

Or did they throw off the shackles of the Catholic church because they had become enlightened?

                    • We're talking subjects of the King of France. You stated that these were subjects of the Pope, and now you're backtracking to say that there was a Papal commander. If that's the case, than Charles IX of Sweden is responsible for every death of the Thirty Years War by the same argument.
they were, in fact, mostly subjects of the county of toulouse and the kingdom of aragon. it was the pope (innocent III) who, following the murder of a papal legate, ordered a crusade and offered cathars' land to any french noble who would deal with the 'heretics'. so the pope, and by extension, the catholic church, were responsible for the conflict.

Executing Catholic priests = justice. I see, black cat. I see. Maybe Barack Obama should do the same and execute all the Catholic priests.

                          Kingdom of Aragon, now, eh?

So what you're saying is that there was a casus belli? That seems to me valid provocation. Had they not executed the papal legate, this would not have happened.

Odd that, when you dig a little deeper that you find the truth.

                          • The exodus of Huguenots from France created a brain drain, as many Huguenots had occupied important places in society. The kingdom did not fully recover for years. The French crown's refusal to allow non-Catholics to settle in New France may help to explain that colony's slow rate of population growth compared to that of the neighbouring British colonies, which opened settlement to religious dissenters. By the time of the French and Indian War (the North American front of the Seven Years War), a sizeable population of Huguenot descent lived in the British colonies, and many participated in the British defeat of New France in 1759-60.[55]

Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg invited Huguenots to settle in his realms, and a number of their descendants rose to positions of prominence in Prussia. Several prominent German military, cultural, and political figures were ethnic Huguenot, including poet Theodor Fontane,[56] General Hermann von François,[57] the hero of the First World War Battle of Tannenberg, Luftwaffe General and fighter ace Adolf Galland;[58] and famed U-boat captain Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière.[59] The last Prime Minister of the (East) German Democratic Republic, Lothar de Maizière,[60] is also a descendant of a Huguenot family, as is the German Federal Minister of Defence, Thomas de Maizière.

Going along the lines that the Catholic church taught them to be absolutist, perhaps the Catholic church taught them other things as well. Like how to read. Rather important, no?

If the Catholics try to overthrow the government and establish a papist government then maybe he should consider it...
