What are you even trying to argue?Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostFine then, if you've invested in a DOW JONES index fund since 2000, you've actually lost money in the last 12 years. Other funds, YMMV.

Yeah, I agree.Originally posted by snoopy369 View PostLet's avoid things like this, please. Ad hominems are one thing, accusing someone of pedophilia is entirely over the top and inappropriate.
We can all agree that Ben's sexual history, religious beliefs, desire for access to children unsupervised, country-fleeing traits indicate a strong suspicion, we can't prove it. It's not fair to call him a pedophile.
That said, if you're a parent and leave your child with him...you're an *******."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

My argument is exactly what I said - that someone who invested in a DOW JONES index fund in 2000, has actually lost money 12 years later. If I have to qualify minus dividends then I will add that, as I'm not taking dividends into account. Is your argument that Obama lost people money?Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Are you contesting that the inflation adjusted high for the DOW was in 2000 prior to the bursting of the dot com bubble? You still haven't provided any proof.
This is a pretty good chart. Shows that the present market has the same value as 1964 when taking inflation into account.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Why choose that point when there have been fluctuations in the following years unrelated to Obama?Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostHence the term 'record high'.
Why choose that point when you know that record highs were not gained without great costs?
Why use a price weighted index?
Furthermore, why not use some dollar cost averaging to get a better picture of returns, like any ****ing normal human would do in an investing environment.Last edited by MRT144; November 7, 2012, 15:19."I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

AFAIK employees of the catholic church in germany (not sure about priests ... talking about normal employees like teachers or administration employees) aren´t forced to get a contract with a catholic insurance agency but are free to keep the health insurance contract they have (even if it is one from a national insurance agency).Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostWhich is what they do. Obamacare doesn't permit the option of the Catholic church setting up their own private health care.
Cannot say anything about Obamacare of course, but doesn´t it provide employers with the choice to
either provide their employees with a sufficient health insurance (meaning that is also can be from a private company)
or pay for Obamacare?

The DJIA averaged less than 11,000 in the year 2000 and is now at around 13,000 which is a 18% increase. Assuming blue chips give you a quarterly dividend of around .4% (guessing it's higher) and you reinvest those dividends over the past twelve years that's an extra 20% return on investment for a total of ~40%. Consumer price index is around 30% higher now than it was in 2000. If this is in an IRA it doesn't look like a loss of money to me.

Yes, if you invested in Dow companies the stock prices haven't increased after adjusting for inflation. Try to wrap your ahead around the concept that companies pay dividends.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostAre you contesting that the inflation adjusted high for the DOW was in 2000 prior to the bursting of the dot com bubble?
