Insurance is to mitigate risk. Pre-existing conditions are not risk. We should not force companies in the business of providing financial instruments to also be charities.

If you're poor and can't afford health care, we have something called "welfare." There's also medicaid, but that's essentially a form of welfare. If you are what we call "middle class" then by definition you do not require state assistance, or require the state to force companies to assist you on its behalf.

If all you care about is "providing financial instruments" you might be a bit of a sociopath.

I'm talking about the role of an insurance company, which is providing a financial instrument which distributes risk.

That's their business model, but it's simply cruel to let people with "pre-existing conditions" suffer if they can't pay out of pocket. I'm not blaming the insurance companies, it's just a reason why health care in the US needs reform.

So you prefer rich people to stay more rich, and people with pre-existing conditions to stay uninsured?

What is qualitatively different about that? Instead of everyone paying for it through higher insurance costs you want people to pay for it with higher taxes.

No. Being middle class does not mean you can pay outrageous medical bills. Do you understand why we need health insurance in the first place? It's because people can't afford to pay those kind of bills.

I prefer to be able to pay for the coverage I want, not the coverage Obama forces me to pay.

What you don't understand is that I, or anyone else, can't or won't pay for people's medical bills who have pre-existing conditions. It's either a collective effort or unfortunately people who have pre-existing conditions do not recieve medical care. So there is no question of just letting the kind hearted people care pay for it. It's not happening without a collective effort. That means forcing the heartless *******s to pay their share.

It's billing practices that are the real villain here. When I found out I would actually pay less - significantly less - for a procedure if I offered cash rather than using my insurance, I knew something was amiss. The system is being continuously gamed by insurance companies, preferred provider networks, and pharma reps. THAT is what needs to be fixed, and neither Obamacare nor anything else is likely capable of standing up to the combined lobbying force of these industries.

Unfortunately not. 2000, 2004, 2010 all instances of dems going bat****e insane. Fortunately the gloats of 2006 and 2008 allowed the healing to begin what with all the "time to move on and not blame the other guys for any and all perceived issues" talk the Dems are so famous for.

Note: By and large the 2000's have reversed the trend of the bat****e crazy the pugs held the trophy for in the 90's.

I'd like to take this opportunity point out that I actually have a legal right this election to vote against Ryan twice.

Redistricting will probably save Paul Ryan from the humiliation of losing two election at once.

If it's a pre-existing condition then what you're buying is not insurance. It's like buying insurance to cover my pre-wrecked car. That's retarded.
How do you propose that uninsured people who have a preexisting condition, who cannot afford medical care on their own, get the health care they need?

Middle class people cannot afford medical bills that run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. You do not have to be poor/impoverished to not be able to afford health care.
