                      If it's a pre-existing condition then what you're buying is not insurance. It's like buying insurance to cover my pre-wrecked car. That's retarded.

                        The benefit to society of health insurance is that costs are spread out to others who are fortunate. The fact that pre-existing conditions aren't covered is a market failure that is corrected by regulation.

                                Obviously not, because nobody cares if you total your car and don't have insurance. Health insurance is something else. People care if you have health insurance or not, especially if you are a misfortunate person and have a pre-existing condition.
