The question assumes that women are helpless and cannot protect themselves. I argue that there are plenty of ways to protect oneself (especially within one's home.

He's talking about someone breaking into your home, and raping your wife. Seriously, if there's a better way to commit suicide than breaking into a random home here in Texas, I don't know what would be the case. There have been numerous reports of 'home invader, shot, killed'. It's not even news anymore. You break into someone's house here - you are putting your life at risk.

If he means someone mugging her on the street - well that's different. Yes you can prepare yourself, but it's possible that someone sneaks up behind you and mugs you. I've seen it happen. But, it does help to prepare yourself, because in case you do see them before you can protect yourself.

The father had the exact same evidence in front of him, and changed his mind. So it's clearly not as cut and dried as this. Yes - abortion is wrong because it kills a person (in this case two people). The church has all the evidence and came to the conclusion that she could have carried successfully and without significant risk to her.

Where does the church say this? Do they say that? No? Well, I guess then your assertion is unfounded. This article is terribly written - gives no indication it was back in 2009, gets major facts wrong (the doctor had been excommunicated 15 years before, etc. Just because they article doesn't say something doesn't make it true. You are arguing from silence, as usual.

Based on the article (and all other articles I could find on the internet regarding the case) the mother was excommunicated, while the father was not. Therefore I argue based on the information given from articles regarding the case (to which I haven´t found any informations, that state the contrary)

So obviously, the church regards the crime of the mother (deciding pro an abortion on behalf of her daughter) as worthy of an excommunication, while the repeated rape of the daughter (and her sister) by the father wasn´t enough to excommunicate him (as else it would have either exommunicated both, or neither of them).

Sure, if they go about and say that what they did was righteous. If you sin and admit that what you did was wrong, you'll be forgiven. This is why the people who perform abortion get excommunicated, because they invariably say that they did the noble thing and that killing children in the womb isn't wrong. Sometimes, you get the rare case of a honest one like Dr. Nathanson who does confess the enormity of what he's done. If the mother here were to go to her priest, and confess her sins, she'd be a Catholic in good standing.

You're assuming the father in the article is the same as the one who raped her. They are two different people. Again, the article is terrible at reporting the actual facts of the case...

where married women who are raped within a city have to be stoned, together with their rapists,
as obviously, in the opinion of the writer of these passages, every women within a city has the chance to either successfully defend herself,
or at least to cry for help (and, after doing so, get help immediately),
and a women who gets successfully raped within a city, therefore must have been voluntarily engaged into sexual intercourse with her rapist
