Today, at around 3:10pm, I was in the last minutes of my break from my job when I witnessed a Black male, around 6' 190lbs, fighting over an object with a middle-aged Asian woman in the middle of a busy intersection (apparently, this was something he had stolen from the store). He then threw her against a parked van and then against the concrete where she lay motionless. I immediately confronted the male and proceeded to call 911, following him on foot as he walked up the street.
He knew I was following and was on the phone with the dispatcher so he threatened me verbally and tried to chase me away. Three times he did such, the final time making a motion to his side to a possible weapon, with me sprinting away before he could get close, maintaining some distance between us, but keeping him in my vision.
As an aside, the dispatcher was incredibly ****ty and did not make the radio call. Fortunately, a community enforcement officer was nearby and saw the commotion with the bystanders, saw me pursuing the suspect, but we lost him in an alley. Fortunately, the call went out and other officers found the suspect and made the arrest. I positively identified the suspect (I trailed him for blocks so I got one hell of a good look; unfortunately, he got a good look at me, as well).
The woman was conscious but was taken to the hospital on a stretcher. As the main witness (yes, this is a busy intersection with at least 30 witnesses who saw the attack but I was the only one who did jack ****), I had to make a statement to the detectives.
Now this is where my issue comes up. I returned to the job and told them the police needed me to make a statement. My situation was approached as if I had done something wrong, with questions about how am I going to leave my vault unsettled, etc. I said this is a more serious situation than some petty Wells Fargo stuff and I'm going with the cops to make my statement. I returned an hour and a half later and completed my job responsibilities. I made sure to get the business card of the detective on the case.
Now, knowing how this manager approaches things, she is not confrontational at the time of the incident, especially when it happens on a Friday afternoon. I'm expecting this to be quiet until next week and then I get hit with some sort of possible disciplinary action.
If this happens, what are my rights?
Thanks
