Al, seriously, you need to stop living your life as though it is some kind of morality play.
When you have to step up, you should do so. At the same time, I imagine that your tone with your manager must have been diffident (at best) or insubordinate...or worse.

Well done on your actions. You have done the right thing! It certainly is more important than some Well Fargo stuff...
But you don't say it. You have to reframe the discussion into you having a moral duty in that situation. Keep to saying positive stuff, lose the negative, that's the way to go. See, it is not that the bank is LESS important, it's actually what you did was not even on an important/urgent scale - It is something that is a duty for all people. And of course, you will do whatever it takes to catch up on all of the ultra-important work at the retail bank *wink**wink**nudge**nudge*
I am also straightforward guy. Trust me, I am. But imagine it as a fight or a dance. If all you do is keep throwing fists everywhere and wiggle your arms violently in all direction, nobody is going to think you are energetic or strong. Everyone is going to think you are a crazy person.Comment
