Are you illiterate? If not then why are you incapable of seeing the disconnect between the story I linked to and Sloww's irrelevant statistics? His idiotic post is akin to saying "The US has more murders than Canada, therefore the murder could not have happened in Canada."

Nobody wants you, that doesn't mean you're not Canadian. How many Texans consider you to be one of them? 0.5% of the state? 1%?

Please quote the post where Loinburger claimed Texas has the most rape. Then Slowwhand's response will make sense to me.

First of all, I have no idea what that picture is supposed to mean. I see a lot of cars in some sort of town. How does that prove the north is a separate country?

Second, it's been a while since I learned about US history but I'm pretty sure the confederacy lost.

Okay, apparently the picture Ben posted is from a url called "http://cache.virtualtourist.com/2741255-Rush_hour_Kabul-Kabul.jpg". Apparently Ben thinks pictures from Afghanistan are proof that the northern US is a separate country from the south.

Now I see he has also posted another picture called "http://www.thecoolist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ruins-of-detroit_marchand-and-meffre_8.jpg". A picture from Detroit is his trump card.

I think he might be going mad.

In another 20 years, the center of the US population will be in the South. If you count Missouri as Southern, then it's been in the south since 1980.

Which has what to do with the Civil War? Or with anything in this thread, for that matter?

Are you talking about the mean center of population? Do you understand how that works? People living in Los Angeles or Arizona or Hawaii bring the mean center further south without even living in the south. It also has nothing to do with whether the north and the south are separate countries or whether the south lost the civil war. In fact it's completely irrelevant.

                              Yes.

You do understand that Arizona was a part of the confederacy?

Actually it speaks volumes. It shows that the shift of population is moving towards TX. Tracking it's drift over time shows the entire expansion of the US into the west, but also between the balance of population betwen the north and the south. During the civil war, it was in Ohio, and this fact is significant because it shows that the North had substantial population advantages.

Those advantages will eventually shift to the southern states, and away from the north.

Is that how you're defining the south? So Missouri, Kentucky, etc. are not part of the south because they didn't join? Not to mention that what the confederates called "Arizona" wasn't even the same as Arizona.

As I've already pointed out, if someone moves from Detroit to Los Angeles that will bring the mean center of population further south even though they never moved to the south. If you bother to add up the population of the southern states you will find that they are not a majority. Further I should add that the non-hispanic white population of Texas is growing very slowly. Texas primarily receives hispanic immigrants, which has very little to do with the "rust belt".

Demographics trends that occur 150 years after the civil war have very little to do with who won anyway. I mean, you might as well claim the Mexicans didn't lose the Mexican-American War because the southwest has a lot of mexicans now. It makes very little sense.
