Wow, I'm sorry I didn't click earlier--this stuff is AWESOME! Good job, Wikileaks! And I'm only halfway through the Wikipedia page...

          This is my favorite part:

          8. (C) After Ramzan sped off, the dinner and drinking --
especially the latter -- continued. An Avar FSB colonel
sitting next to us, dead drunk, was highly insulted that we
would not allow him to add "cognac" to our wine. "It's
practically the same thing," he insisted, until a Russian FSB
general sitting opposite told him to drop it. We were
inclined to cut the Colonel some slack, though: he is head
of the unit to combat terrorism in Dagestan, and Gadzhi told
us that extremists have sooner or later assassinated everyone
who has joined that unit. We were more worried when an
Afghan war buddy of the Colonel's, Rector of the Dagestan
University Law School and too drunk to sit, let alone stand,
pulled out his automatic and asked if we needed any
protection. At this point Gadzhi and his people came over,
propped the rector between their shoulders, and let us get
          out of range.
I'd be mixing cognac with wine all time if my job involved combating terrorism in Dagestan.

You are denying him his novel rights.

I can't seem to access Wikileaks

But my favorite part on Wikipedia's synopsis has to be the very first one they list, about the Afghan VP. "Hmm, you've got $52 million, cash--enough to buy out half the property in Kabul--and won't tell us where the hell you got it or what you're going to do with it. Okay then, sir, keep up the good work!"

"Someone" is DoSing the Wikileaks website

"Someone" is defined as either the US government or some patriotic counter-terrorism American.

Not that I necessarily doubt it, but how do you know it's a DoS and not just the site getting swamped?

Because WikiLeaks has determined so. You can identify a DoS by the point of origin of the attacks. If the site's getting swamped, it looks like realistic traffic. If it's all coming from the same set of computers in foreign countries endlessly, you can assume it's a DoS attack.

Or we can just wait for the next batch of Wikileaks documents containing the relevant memos to prove it.

Considering how ineffective the DDOS (which I think is now over) was, I seriously doubt it was the Defense Department. The Pentagon has enough bandwidth to squash pretty much anyone else's connection.

Why the hell would you assume this would be done by a (traceable) US government network?

Wezil seemed to imply that the US government was behind it. And I don't think DoD would really care about people knowing it was behind such an attack.
