I took a closer look and found that "forbidden" is too strict of a term to use for all followers of Islam. It's pretty clear, however, that any depictions of any of the prophets are anathema for most believers and bordering on the same for most of the rest since such images are expected to encourage idolatry.

I'd love to know what "market" you're refering to?

The Persians and Shia have a more liberal record on this issue than the Sunni but I'm still be rather skeptical that such depictions are commonplace. Given that the penalty for apostacy is death I would think most people would be somewhat reluctant to buy or sell such depictions. Have you seen this personally?

It's no secret that the Arab world is full of lies and slander about the West. Everything from fake Danish cartoons to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are taken seriously over there. Even if and when we bend over backwards to be nice to the Muslim world, the people in power fabricate stories and feed them to the government controlled media, which then get treated as facts.

That's why I find Zkribb to be demonstrating naivety. It doesn't matter what we do. The leaders use hatred of us to keep the people in line.

Muslims view Christ as a great prophet. He is one of their holy figures, and they would never attack Him.

First off, they don't believe he was God. That's huge. It, for them, means that Christians are committing the ultimate sacrilege against the 'unity of God' in the Trinity. So yeah, they would attack him as a blasphemer for claiming to be God himself.

Saying that the West provokes Muslims is like saying a girl who gets drunk at a party was asking to get raped. It's blaming the victim instead of recognizing an implacable evil when it's right in front of you.

It also didn't help matters that the imams who were responsible for the ****storm supplemented the Mohammed depictions with fake ones, e.g. a guy dressed up as a pig with a caption "this is the prophet Mohammed" added by the imams, plus the fact that Mohammed has been depicted in some Islamic art traditions for centuries. If the depictions were intended to demonstrate that Islamic fundamentalism is retarded then it did so quite effectively.

I didn't know about the fake ones but that sounds like par for the course, I guess.

Wrong. That applies to infidels that is not Jews or Christians, in practice everyone that does not believe in one God(actually, India's history shows that this can in some instances be bended). People of the Book, ie Jews and Christians are allowed to live as long as they are okay with oppression from the Muslims. Dhimmitude is the term. After WW2, this has changed somewhat in parts of radical Islam.
