Hwy 16 in Alberta has been divided for some time, enough time that news of it is not on the internet in press releases and news stories. I suspect that it does not get remarked on because it is not remarkable.

As for "it's only double lane from Hinton to Stoney Plain," that is an unbelievably moronic comment. Why would they divide a highway from an industrial town to a suburb, and leave it a two-lane roadway from the suburb into the transportation hub of the region?

You really aren't thinking these things through before you fling them at the wall, Ben. I'm actually a bit concerned. This has to be some form of illness.

Go have a gander at Google maps. Select the satellite option. Zoom into Edmonton. You can quite clearly see divided highway all the way into Edmonton for both 16 and 16A. Hint. There are better resolution images available for the city out to past Spruce Grove and Stony Plain to about where 16A merges with 16.

I'm still wondering though, what would possess someone to lie, and then modify lies, and then further modify lies, and continue to post bald faced lies when confronted with being so thoroughly busted? About something as trivial as a highway, and when your lying to someone who lives practically on top of said feature? Just. Wow.

There are only 3 main roads over the rockies, and this is the third. It's the second most commonly used route to cross Canada.

In the states it would be an Interstate.

Now I'm looking at it on Google Maps, it looks like it's a 4 lane divided road from at least Winnipeg west. I've only actually been on the Trans-Canada out east and from Calgary to Banff, both places it's a highway.

Last I checked they hadn't. It was completed about 4 months ago in Saskatchewan.

It's still not done in Manitoba.

Parts of it have, yes, from Hinton to the SK Border. The remainder which is the portion I drove is single lane.

You misunderstood. On my trip, it was only double lane from Hinton to Stoney Plain, because I only drove into Stoney Plain. For that matter, I only did both BC portions, PG to Jasper and Jasper to PG on the return trip. I slept the rest of the way.

This is why I was rather shocked at your statement challenging when I said all the way to Edmonton. As far as I had driven the Yellowhead it had been single lane, and until this trip, I'd never driven past Jasper or to Edmonton.

I don't know what it's like in San Francisco, but in my travels I've been very impressed by the infrastructure in the US.

Just the interstates alone is so much better then we have in Canada, where the transcanada is two lane, and that is the highway that is supposed to bind Canada together.

I just got back from a trip to Edmonton, two lane all the way, in the US it would be an interstate at least 4 lanes, as it is one of the primary routes used by truckers.

The main topic being how Canada's infrastructure is not up to par with the US, and the Yellowhead being one example of such.

The report in question (attached) was commissioned by the US House of Representatives Budget Committee and Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in large part because they could not sort out all the conflicting estimates of infrastructure investment "needs". The report looked at data from all sides to come up with a best estimate. Yes it's my opinion, but that's what they are paying me for when I was asked to write that section of the report.
