As we see it, what Canada desperately needs is a commitment to bringing the country's highways up to a standard approaching that adopted by the Eisenhower administration in the 1970s, in the form of the Interstate highway system.

In his quest for a majority government, Mr. Harper ought to consider the enormous vote-getting potential of a commitment to obtain federal-provincial agreements with the provinces on not just upgrading the TCH to a minimum of four lanes but also designating other routes, such as the Yellowhead Highway between Winnipeg and Kamloops and northern extensions of Interstate highways that now end at the Canadian border as part of a national grid

I haven't driven all the way from Edmonton to Lloydminster, which is half of the distance. I see pictures showing that it's twinned.

You've stated that from Hinton to Jasper isn't twinned, which confirms what I've been saying.

So the argument is just over the stretch from Hinton to Edmonton.

From Lloyd to past Hinton. ie. the entire part of it in Alberta save somewhere near the park/mountains (I can't recall precisely where it reverts to the old 2 lane, single road, but I would imagine it is before any pass).

Incidentally, the feds coughed up cash for Saskatchewan and Manitoba (IIRC) to divide the Yellowhead (Hwy 16) as well. That was back around the turn of the century, but maybe your newspaper from Ontario didn't have an up to date map either. *snicker*

If you really wish to persist, I suggest zooming in on Google satellite. Find Edmonton, zoom in. There are a couple Hwys going West. One is 16, the other 16A. Follow 16 (or 16A til it merges with 16). Follow out of the city a bit (in the city it's 8 lanes at that point). Zoom in as far as they have images for. You'll see 16 as two yellow lines (divided). Follow it west to Hinton. There will be several spots where the two roads diverge significantly as the highway has to dodge muskeg (bogs) and other features.

Harper should designate the Yellowhead (Hwy 16) as part of a national grid.

That's a fine idea. Maybe that is why that was done in the 60's or 70's.

As for my drive, 3/4ths of the route is single lane. It's only double lane from Hinton to Stoney Plain. I don't see why you cared so much as to ***** about the true and accurate statement that it's not up to interstate standards.
