I do think that something needs to be done, what I heard of the bailout was very scary though. I mean, my understanding is that Paulson could give all the money to his best buds and no one would be able to even censor him for it.

The Paulson bailout was scary. I think there were less scary alternatives that folks like Dodd were coming up with. I think I'd still rather wait until after the election, though.

It's all political posturing right now. Few if any of these jerks we've aelected has true backbone. What they've mostly got -- all of them -- is agendas.

No, this is not true. What they are saying about how they are going to vote has consequences.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Debate is on. CNN reports thar McCain will be there in Mississippi.

CNN said that Mississippi had already spent millions getting ready for this debate. My question is: on what?!? Did they buy toilet seats from the air force, or something??

So what you're saying is that they do need John McCain there to work out a compromise?
They had a deal before McCain came.
No one seemed to have told the House Republicans about a deal though.

It costs money to make it look purty.

No one seemed to have told the House Republicans about a deal though.
A senior Boehner aide admitted that part of the reason why House R's raised a stink was that McCain came to town:
But a top aide to Boehner said it was Democrats who had done the political posturing. The aide, Kevin Smith, said Republicans revolted, in part, because they were chafing at what they saw as an attempt by Democrats to jam through an agreement on the bailout early Thursday and deny McCain an opportunity to participate in the agreement.
