I'd personally like to see a US politician keep his or her religion completely off the radar.

"Yes, I'm X but that shouldn't matter because of separation of church and state. If you vote for me, I'd prefer you do it because of my politics and not because of my religion."

        Or even:

"I'm not going to comment on my religion. That has no place in my work as a politician and so I refuse to make it a part of my election."

Isn't the UK already largely indifferent to its elected officials' religious beliefs? I remember hearing that Tony Blair recently (after stepping down as PM) converted to Catholicism and I remember thinking "Wow, he was an Anglican before? I'd no idea..."

Tony Blair also refuses to stand up for his new faith.

I don't believe he's converted honestly. He doesn't show any respect for the pope or the teachings of the Catholic church.

Look at it this way Ali C. Religion has effects on what a person believes and where there head is at. I would want to know what religion they practice, if any, so I have a better idea of what I can expect if they get in power.

I think religion does have a place on politics, when many of the political issues overlap with church teachings.

Liberation Theology is basically taking that iconic picture of Che Guevara, slapping on a halo, and trying to pass him off as Jesus. It's been anathematized by the Pope, IIRC, and is/was popular in Latin America.

So, he's like a normal Catholic then?

It's not for no reason that the catholic church usually uses the tradition! The Bible doesn't serve the catholic position very well.
Bible I believe suits the position of the Catholic church very well, especially since we were the ones who put it together.

Why else would Protestants have to take books out?

That has really been tonned down since the middle ages, today It plays a very minor role in worship. Except in latin America. But I would argue that if it where not for the saints Chatolicism would have had far less converts from the polytheistic peoples of Africa and the Americas.

Also if you belive in heaven, why not ask a guy living in heaven to ask God really really nicley for stuff you want. The hope is that saints being saints will spend more time praying than you will.

That was done away a long time ago. But it seems some modern protestant televangelists think it works.

                            Yes it does.

Otherwise the bible would have been different. The fact that the church representatives voted on what got into the bible assures it.
