I'm not sure if Jesus is the only way to get to heaven, but I do know that when I'm feeling sinister, I go see my minister-to try vainly to take away the pain from being a hopeless unbeliever.

Depends on your definition of LDS "heaven". They do believe only LDS members go to the "Celestial Kingdom". And that only those married in the Temple achieve the highest degree within the Celestial Kingdom. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

I think it is the Jehovah's that have a limit on heaven admission. Only so many seats apparently."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

The qualifications are actually along these lines:
"...they who received the testimony of Jesus," "[those] who overcome by faith, and are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father sheds forth upon all those who are just and true...," "those who abide a celestial law," AND/OR
"All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God."
And anyway, the Celestial Kingdom is only part of Heaven. LDS people believe that salvation through Jesus Christ will ultimately reach the vast majority of people in at least some way.
The Terrestrial Kingdom is for: "they who were not valiant in their testimony."
The Telestial Kingdom is for: "the [wicked] who were thrust down to hell, but are redeemed from the devil at the last Resurrection [end of the Millenium]."
But anyway, I don't want this to turn into a threadjack, and I'm confident Mr. Obama doesn't see these things quite the same way I do.

You're sorta leaving out the key requirements of being BAPTISED and receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I can quote lds.org if you really want.
Ya know, one of the main reasons of the Temples and all. Baptisms for the dead. So, even those that die WILL be baptised, and WILL be members of the church prior to gaining the Celestial Glory.
As for the differing degrees...well, that's a topic for another time. Outer Darkness is reserved for me anyway. I have a snow cone stand set up there already. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

Nobody goes to heaven.
Earth will be renewed and we will be on the new earth.
Everybody who's perfect can enter the new earth. Those who will cause (even the smallest) problems can't enter for obvious reason. It wouldn't be paradise anymore.
Conclusion: if you're perfect there's nothing to be scared about.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

Oh, and protestants protest(ed) against:
- catholic possibility to buy yourself into heaven
- catholic tradition of worshipping / praying to saints
- catholics valueing their tradition equal to the Bible
- pope being the representator of Christ on earth
- more of that stuffFormerly known as "CyberShy"

I think the remarks here about not caring for the mother is pretty crappy. It's worse than crappy, but I don't feel like starting in about it heavily.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I have to say that his opinion on the spiritual fate of his mother doesn't really give me as much cause for concern as the fact that he went to a church that espoused Liberation Theology.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

Purgatory is the purification for all those who are saved, just as the bible says, that our works will be tested by fire. Those who get through will be rewarded, but those who fail will enter only as one escaping through the fire.
This is what protestants protest against as well.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

It's not for no reason that the catholic church usually uses the tradition! The Bible doesn't serve the catholic position very wellFormerly known as "CyberShy"
