It appears to me that Thompson's supporters got disillusioned with him and went back to the "undecided" pool until they saw Huckabee, who was who they thought they were getting with Thompson and jumped to him.

It's the social conservatives who are unsure of Romney trying to find a candidate.

Look at the Rasmussen data. His decline started well before that date. Thompson, incidentally, recently got coveted the National Right to Life endorsement.

How so?

Huckabee being over Romney means he's the frontrunner. If a significant percentage support Romney because he's 'electable', that means his support is going to get eaten into by Huckabee. I've shown that Romney's decline is matched by a rise by Huckabee, even if Romney's decline doesn't account for the entire rise.

Sounds like the Mormons abandoned it about the same time as the rest of the group...

1978 is when Mormons officially stopped teaching that blacks were unfit to be priests by virtue of their tainted race. Since Romney has said he believes all the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he was 31 years old when the Mormons stopped espousing racism it would be interesting to learn if Romney supported the racist theory for half of his life or if Romney thinks he can pick and choose which passages of his holy book to follow and which to ignore.
