Chinese sub plays Marco Polo with US Navy battle fleet... and wins.
So, wanna talk about how many billions China will have to spend in US treasure bonds to keep the USD afloat ?
Because it is still your economy and nothing else that keeps that piece of 80ies technology afloat.
What will China do when its greatest buyer by far tanks and takes every other potential buyer down with it? Its hard to spend money on catchup with a billion starving slave workers.
Or better yet, when Indias billion people start sucking up buyers?

I never said they would let you tank. The only reason they haven't done so already is because of what you are saying.
OTOH, I am pretty sure your fancy subs will never be torpedoing any Chinese vessels exactely for this reason as well
Instead of trying to kill you with radiation poisoning they're trying to sneak tiny amounts of lead and date rape drug into your country.
The lead I don't like. But the other can be kind of fun.
I had a roommate who tried to lock himself into a bathroom and take a certain drug and see if he woke up pregnant.
He didn't.
I would think to wake up pregnant you would have to not be in a bathroom, and likely not in the US.
Also, I am not sur ehow long it is safe to put someone out for?

Agreed.

Damm international trade relations!! How are we supposed to get new games now? I don’t want to kill virtual Nazis and terrorists for the rest of my life!!!
BTW Why does the diplo bonus apply even if neither side considers the trade relations to be fair?
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila
Your post reminds me of an old war nerd article essentially claiming that overwhelming air power, guided missiles, and mass kamikaze attacks could easily make an expensive investment a hulk at the bottom of the sea at little cost to the enemy.
I like war nerd and he has some sensible views of war and I wonder if he has a point. I'm no naval expert but I wonder if a Carrier group has sufficient defenses to thwart overwhelming or surprise attacks.
no, but I doubt any nation can pull off coordinated overwhelming attacks. But it's possible. It would be foolish to think carriers are invulnerable.
And I do believe Carriers are becoming obsolete. They aren't quite there yet. But it's better to have smaller missile platforms. When our reconassiance and missile technology gets better, I can't see having anything larger than a gas turbine destroyer.
Things to keep in mind though is destroyers can only carry so many missiles, I'm not sure if missiles are more efficient space wise as jet fighters carrying smart bombs. I think I read reports of ships running low on missiles on various conflicts the past 10 years. So that means you have to have more destroyers. Are more smaller ships more efficient than one larger ship? You do spread risk over a greater area which is better. And nuclear power is so expensive making carriers too expensive.

This means China could pearl harbor us though.. isn't that a bad thing?

It isn't realistic to operate the military at war time conditions.
It's something 9/11 conspiracy guys don't understand. The United States is almost defenseless. We had no jets capable of shooting anything down on 9/11. Shore duty is generally considered cake duty, a time to spend some time with family, not run wartime like drills.
Now I don't know how readiness has changed since 9/11. I would hope we have some jets armed and ready to go on both coasts now, but you still have people who aren't prepared to go to war.
When I was in officers on duty weren't required to stay on the ship (enlisted were- but we often snuck out and went home if we weren't on watch).

Heh, well, thats one way of putting it. I see it as China participating it stupid PR stunts that won't fool anyone in the know, just sap armchair generals.
Sooooo, net for China?
1.) Anyone who has any relevant opinion still knows China's hardware is crap.
2.) Everyone who doesn't have a relevant opinon will now demand we spend money on new hardware/training anyway because they don't know China's hardware is crap.
Us, win win. China, lose lose.
all I know is the Chinese kicked our ass pretty badly in Korea. Sure they didn't win out (stalemate), but the put the hurt on us. Yes our technology has gotten much better, but so has theirs (chinese troops in Korea were badly equipped).
I think what she meant was general approval of GHB, which I agree with ( and would be doing often, if not the fact that I am in the military, and the think has social stigma attached to it )
