For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Oh, that's right. There is another science fiction staple out there that I'd forgotten about. Can't think how it might have slipped my mind...

Poorly designed? How does the rugged simplicity of a Star Destroyer or Executor compare to the vulnerable appendages of the monstrosities in Star Trek?
          Unbelievable!

          • The Executor (a so-called Super Star Destroyer) got taken out by a single fighter crashing into the ship.

            • That's because it didn't have shields; I'm talking just from a basic design standpoint. To me a rugged prism would be a lot more difficult to disable than a ship composed of a disc connected to six separate shafts. Supposing that neither had shields or that both had equally strong shields, I know which one I'd rather be on in a battle.
              Unbelievable!

              • I'd rather have the one that has never been taken out by a single fighter and the one that has a secondary command system.

                • I don't care what allegedly happened in some fictional la-la-land, this is just basic spatial thinking here. It's like choosing between a battleship or a trimaran before going into Leyte Gulf.
                  Unbelievable!

                  • I'd take the trimaran, as anything bigger would probably get sunk by the carriers over the horizon

Also, the Executor DID have shields, but they were down at the time.

                    • Fine, assume it's one bigass trimaran. The point is that being an array of shafts and joints makes a vessel or spacecraft flimsy and vulnerable compared to a single mass.

That, and Star Trek also sucks in a general way.
                      Unbelievable!

                      • You fail at getting around the fact a single fighter took out a less flimsy and vulnerable super capital ship.

                        • You fail to get around the fact that a single Q made the flimsy and more vulnerable ship disappear into thin air.

And don't forget that whole embarrassing incident with the Deathstar.
