When the Soviet army first entered Estonia, they were cheered as liberators. However, when some decided to stay and make a life for themselves there, they suddenly became conquoers.

The point is that since the statue has become such a symbol for the Russian minority in Estonia, why anger them purposefully by moving it? The government knew it was going to cause trouble. It is as if the Estonian government wanted to show they are not interested in the opinions of their minorities - a European Union country should know better.
I think it has more then a bit to do with nationalism and Estonians wanting to show they won't let the Russians continue to bully them. The Estonian politicians likely don't want to be seen as backing down due to Russian demands. In reality a military grave yard is likely the most suitable location for a war memorial.

Because if you don't then you are essentially still letting Russia dictate Estonia's domestic policies. That simply can't be a good thing.

Dashi, Stalin invaded and conquered the Baltic states in 1939 before Germany invaded the USSR. German troops were actually greeted as liberators after Barbarossa because most of the people just wanted rid of the Soviet invaders.

Ok. It would be nice to have our local Soviet apologist back.

Oerdin got it right. Why is it that so many people know only one front of the WWII, but these relatively simple and easy to remember events are always missing... I mean, are these not taught? I suppose they are, since this is how the Cold War started and the background to it.

Estonia was hardly liberated. The uniforms changed. It is as if they are supposed to be happy about being occupied by communists, because the alternative was to be invaded by fascist. But then again, they WERE invaded by fascists, so that was just an added bonus, not liberation. To this day, there's people who think Estonia was actually fascist, so it had to be... occupied to the degree that it was.

A lot of people often forget how the Europe was divided for two players, Stalin and Hitler. But just like in any soap opera, someone was stabbed in the back during the process. Stalin was lucky for it, because history serves him much better than he deserves.

If you sincerely believe Russia maintains diplomatic missions in each of the the Baltics the size of their London embassy because we got as many economic, cultural and political exchange as Britain then you are nuts.

                        Ohh the evil Estonians

So, the news says that now there are bunch of places there completely clogged because cars are driving extra slowly on purpose. Supposedly and allegedly messages of doing this has been spreaded with SMS and in the internet.

On top of that, Russian politicians are demanding that the PM of Estonia will resign over this.

Hmm, the provocation seems to be pretty one sided to me. Should we look at how, for example our graves, have been handled in known battle fields within Russia? Oh it doesn't matter, does it? It only matters if Estonia does it, and even they aren't just doing it, they're removing it to another place. If it was me, I'd destroy the stone of propaganda. I would not allow a statue of oppression to be present if it was me.

I bet there are lots of people now everywhere who want to cry a lot. Too bad.

And even bringing the subject of police handling it too roughly, look at your own ****ing country, didn't you just arrest a whole bunch of people who were against the leadership, including the chess champ, as well as the infamous gay parade, which wasn't such a good idea? So now you care about few drunken punks, robbing stores in another country?

If you ask me, bring it on commie punks. Stop being such pussies and say what you really mean, or go back and keep sucking at everything except hockey.
