They are just looking for an excuse to riot, prompted by the Russian government. The point is, why give them that excuse?

Should a government back off from doing something that most of the population and most of the government itself supports because that's going to cause riots among another portion of the population?

Well, then it's no longer a democracy as in the rule of majority. Riots are usually caused by a minority - if the government backs off at the threat of riots, then it's catering to the minority.

Alternatively, it's no longer a tyranny of the majority.

Democracy IS a tyranny of the majority. It definitely sucks as a form of government... but it's not like we've come up with anything better.

True, but many have managed to incorporate safeguards that mitigate the ill-effects to some degree. Sounds like the Russian minority in Estonia benefit from some.

It's really just a classic example of a polarized society. Latvia has the same, lucky Lithuanians have it to a much lesser degree. The minority, in these countries, is extremely opposed to the views and the decisions of the majority... hence some of the problems.

Hey, at least, when thinking about the Republican-Democrat "polarization" in the USA, I can laugh at how it's not really so polarized

It's a battle of two different discourses, of course my opinion is that there is a story that is more truthful to the history, because we have to look at this from the Estonian point of view. What happened to them during that war? A lot of people around Estonia and in Estonia know what happened.

And we also know, that this is not the real issue, there was going to be words thrown around anyway, even if tehre was no statue to begin with. It's not about the statue and if it was, respectfully move it somewhere else and make sure if there's bodies buried, that they will be handled properly and with respect. That is all, and everyone else can **** off.
