She found the fleet visually didn't she? a darkening canopy would have prevented that.

They probably have. But we're talking about an obsolete decommissioned ship that recently took a pounding by 4 basestars. I don't think anything on the Galactica is exactly working great anymore.

No, Galactica came through relatively unscathed. Heck, the ship is designed to take direct hits with nukes. That's some serious radiation. I was thinking of the raptors.

I suppose it wasn't possible to lash the raptors to the ships they were guiding.

Actually, with all the blinding light, it would enhance visibility by reducing the glare.

if it will block more background and less the important ships then there is no reason to have not included it(other then raptors just not being designed for such environments of course).

Doesn't anyone listen to the podcast? The reason they didn't have tinted face shields was because if they did you couldn't see the actor's faces (same reason they have lights in their helmets -- that would be annoying as hell IRL). It's still a TV show
