Just posting to say: Sorry. Thought this thing looked like fun. On closer inspection, I don't think I'd have a hope of participating from over here.

Anyway, I'll do my best to follow along.

Why couldn't you participate? Maybe Ben would like to have an assistant manager? You could cover for periods when he can't pay attention.

On that topic, do we want to limit it to 14 teams or are we willing to go up to 16 (keeping in mind that the larger the league the longer the draft will take)? In any event, we need 1 more after Pekka joins (I've sent him a PM).

Looking back to last years draft, Moral Hazard and Sparrowhawk said they were sorry they missed it. I already tried to PM Sparrowhawk, but his box was full.

Should we set a deadline date and start the draft at that time? Kontiki mentioned Sept 1.

I was thinking Sept. 1 for draft start, so ideally I'd like to close registration by August 30 to get the draft details nailed down. I've set the max teams to 20, so there's still plenty of room for teams, but we really should have an even number so we don't have byes every week.

Possible problem with 18 or 20 teams would be getting the draft done on time for opening day, but there may be ways around that. We could start with 12 or 13 players each and no dropping or adding allowed, then we could add players 1 by 1.

Other possible glitch, does it say anything like 'your league will not be permitted to conduct its draft if it contains an odd number of managers' anywhere in your league notes?

I'm happy to give it a shot. But my knowledge of the players is pretty much only based on the integrity of the OT as a source of reliable information.

That's the only drawback of a bigger league. Hopefully people will be more committed this time around for both the draft and the season. I don't see us getting that many teams, though. Pekka would make 13, and I think we'd really be scrounging to find more than 14.

Doesn't seem to be an issue. There are no notes on odd teams, and at various points of people signing up where there were odd numbers, so one team just had a bye each week in the schedule. Byes suck, though, because you really should be active every week.

Strange. The league I created had a note. 'Your league will not be permitted to conduct its draft if it contains an odd number of managers.' I couldn't find it in yours, so I created a test league and that league has that note.

I agree about the byes. I'd go so far as to think about adding a 'league run' team to avoid that.

Hmm...I just dug through the rules and it does look like an odd number of teams would be a problem. From Yahoo:

All Head-to-Head Leagues must have an even number of teams in order to be drafted.

Head-to-Head Leagues with an odd number of teams are switched to become a pre-draft Autopick League as soon as their draft time passes. These leagues then need to arrange for an even number and reschedule their draft.

So it looks like we're going to need another team, assuming Pekka ever gets around to registering. I sent him a PM the other day and he was online earlier today, but he hasn't put in a team nor posted here. Come to think of it, I haven't seen him around much lately at all.
