Only one word in the 5 books of moses has been documented to have changed since the time of the second temple*..... translation is not an issue.

It is not prostitute, it is prostrate. It says prostrate, it means prostrate.

The dead sea scrolls have one word different then the Torah today. I forget where, I roughly remember the passage.

Jesus said that dietary laws were useless, that what makes a man impure is what comes out of his mouth (what man says) and not what comes in (what a man eats).
He contradicts jewish law if I recall correctly, on divorce and re-marriage, on punishments, on what could be done on saturdays, what can be eaten, and his disciples decided it was not necessary to be circumcised.

Dietary laws in Judaism are erormously valuable for reasons that have nothing to do with G-D. They provide Jewish cohesion. Besides that it teaches a degree of self control over your own diet and eating habits. If there is not Kosher food available, you do without. They provided significant health benefits till extremley modern food preservation technology. Whether Jesus said it or not, renouncing Jewish dietary laws would be vital to spreading Christianity. Kosher laws are a tough pill to swallow.

Here is a semi-Biblical question. Are the Jews still considered by Christians to be the 'chosen people'? And if they are, then shouldn't Christians be Jews? If they have been chosen by God, isn't that the place to be to get saved? Or is the logic that the Messiah has extended the 'chosen people' to go beyond just Jews?

Pauline Christianity is fairly explicit that one doesn't need to be a Jew to be saved. There were forms of Christianity that were a lot more Jewish in the first couple hundred years..

Well they say G-D changed the rules.

                Obviously we disagree.

Different sects of christianity have different opinions on the subject.

I think the Jews are guaranteed some form of salvation. Not necessarily heaven but not hell either. I believe Dante put them all in limbo with the Greeks. So it's your call if thats a good thing or not.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm merely pointing out that prostitute is an effective substitute for prostrate and that it has more subtle connotations. IMO, it's unlikely to be a mistranslation. It's more likely that it was a conscious change.

                        • Prostitute completley changes the meaning and the conotation of it, nor is there any reason to believe it says prostitute. It says prostrate. In this instance I think it was proboably an accidental change-I don't see any ideological advantage ANY group would gain, by changing that to prostitute.

They are still and will remain so because of the covenant promises to Abraham.

And if they are, then shouldn't Christians be Jews? If they have been chosen by God, isn't that the place to be to get saved?
Christ himself says that those who believe in him shall be saved, and that no one can know the father except through him.

It doesn't matter what you are, Jew or Gentile, the same rule applies for salvation. However, and this is what Paul says, the Jews retain their status as the chosen people.

What this means is the rather interesting fact that Christians are prolly the only religion that does not consider themselves to be the chosen people of God. We are the dregs so to speak, the table scraps that God chose to allow to eat at the table.

So why have Christians historically been intolerant of Jews?

                              Comment

                              • It really depends on the time period. Christians were persecuted themselves by the Roman Empire and for the most part did nothing about the Jews until well into the middle ages.

Then you have now, when the Christians and Jews see themselves as more allies then enemies in the face of secularism.

So the claim that historically Christians and Jews have persecuted each other is not really accurate. Muslims and Jews, and athiests (Communists and Nazis and Jews) is much more so.
